S4 and RS4 conrods HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I got finally some info. The RS4 shells are thinner, not thicker. But there is 1 mm difference in the overall bearing size without the shells. The crankshaft diameter is the same in the connection rods. There is more room for the thicker bolts in that way.
I also noticed that the SPM (Eagle, Eurospec or whatever) connection rods are too big! The big end size is 83 mm, and the cylinder diameter is 81 mm. So the normal installation is impossible. And also installing the rod from the crankshaft side and the piston from up is impossible. The piston wont go down enough that the piston pin could be installed.
Does anyone have had these installed, and if yes, with what pistons?
So I had to buy AutoVerdi connection rods. Those will fit, but they are also almost three times more expensive.

Eurospec fit on any bore bigger than 81.2 mm out of the Box. But you can machine them to fit down an 81mm bore. Done it with no problems!dummi wrote:well mine were eurospec which are the same i think and they told me i had the wrong ones sent,, Doug noticed straight away the only difference was the big end sides were shaved to 80mm from 83mm
They'll fit stock rs4 piston, JE or Woessner. Basically any Piston with a 21mm wristpin. THEY WON'T FIT S4 PISTONS because of the 20mm wristpin !! But then why would you just do the rods on s4 pistons anyhow ?? If you go for 500hp+ you might as well drop the CR properly to run decent boost and timing. The bigend fits with RS4 shells on an RS4 and S4 crank.

I wouldn't dare to machine the big end, who knows how much torque and power it will stand after that?
I wonder that wrist pin size, because those SPM rods and RS4 rods had the same small end diameter? I don't remember it clearly, but my pistons are ordered to S4 engine, so the wrist pin should be 20 mm. Well, anyway, the wrist pin fits to both rods, and that is strange!?
Is it a fact that the RS4 wrist pin is 21 mm and S4 is 20 mm? Because what I know now those both are the same. I know that the RS4 SSP says that the diameter is increased, but it seems that it's not. I have to measure those, but the parts are far away...

i think you will find the at there are a lot of inaccuracies in the rs4 ssp.
Dave - i thought you got the block overbored to get the rods to fit without machining?
