Good driving roads?
Good driving roads?
Getting fed up with the boring commute to work I want to go out for a decent drive in the evening. So, looking for good driving roads coming out of Farnham Surrey.
I'm after twisty roads with plenty of acceleration and braking, good visibility and no cameras.
Any ideas?

RE: Good driving roads?
Isn't the commute a b1tch. There's always someone wanting to do 35 in a 60. Grrrr.
Nudge the loud pedal and you just end up someone's aRS. It's just not fair.
I think there should be designated (safe) roads that don't have speed limits at night. Like that's likely to happen though.
A31 towards Alton is good but you do have to watch for speed cams. Farnham to Elstead for the serious twisties. Personally I like beacon hill road (off the A287) if it's clear.

RE: Good driving roads?
I'm afraid i can't help with good routes in Surrey. But 200K miles of reping helped me find some gems. My favourite roads in the UK are Newton to Builth Wells and Llanielo to Aberystwyth. both of these Welsh roads are primarily 40-80mph super twisty and undulating roads, no issues with police or cameras. Of the 7 cars I've done the Newton trip in all have suffered such bad brake fade you'll have to stop/crawl threequarters of the way in. If however it's just a high speed hit your after, the long drag from Edinburgh to the English border 150mph+ except for a dozen round abouts. (Cameras and police sadly are alot more of an issue here). PS this Autum i'm off to the Stelvio pass in Italy which i suspect will be spectacular!

Thanks, much the roads I was thinking. I don't often head out that way so forget how good they are. Guess I'll have to go explore.GardinerG wrote:Isn't the commute a b1tch. Found some great roads a few years ago when we went to North Yorshire.

RE: Re: RE: Good driving roads?
Oh, nearly forgot.. A31 and surrounding has unmarked coppers. Impretzel P1 debaged IIRC and others.
RE: Re: RE: Good driving roads?
A31 Compton to Farnham (both ways) often has mobile cams and occassionally gangs of police cars and bikes (8+ in 1 mile) blitzing speeders.
RE: Re: RE: Good driving roads?
Overtook a Silver Skoda VRS the other day to then notice as I past small extra lights on the front bumper
Lucky it was on a roundabout so I had the opportunity to NOT accelerate away. He didn't seem bothered
