doing own services

Post by GHH » Wed Jun 06, 2007 10:36 pm

probably been asked loads before, tried searching but didnt do too well.

the standard s4 i just bought has been on the longlife service scheme at the dealers since new.

basically i'm looking to do my own servicing when possible. i'm a sad git who enjoys working on cars!

to those of you that do your own servicing - what intervals do you do between them?

Whats the best oil to use? i gather 6.5 litres is required.

how often does the gearbox and diff oil need to be changed?

anything else you can think of i might want to consider.

cheers,
George

I do my own.

Oil and filter every 5K ( once a year for me :( ). Did use Total 5W40 Synth from GSF as it was only ~£15 for 4 litres but will get Kwikfit to do a Mobil1 oil and filter change for £30 from now on. Can't fault that price as the oil would cost me about £60

Diff and gearbox oil is meant to be good for life, but I'm going to do mine soon. There was a post the other day with a Silkolene oil mentioned that is meant to be good for both.

Changed the plugs to Bosch F5DP0R

I'm also going to change the fuel filter. Car done 95K so worth doing IMO
