vag-com & wot = no logging?
vag-com & wot = no logging?
first of all, I'd like to say Hi to all from Finland. I just found this forum and it's nice to have an english speaking forum where people from europe hang out.
So maybe someone has had same kind of problems with vag-com as I have in my euro99/1 S4. I haven't bought registered version yet, and that might be the problem, but I understood that the demoversion should work too with engine blocks under 025?
My problem is that there are a lot of cut of's when I try to log engine blocks. Mostly when I try WOT measurements.
I've tried 303.1 and a couple of earlier versions.
I do have the concert radio that is supposed to be troublesome, so have NE1 with concert been succesful in logging?
Other possibility is to try shorter cable as mine is about 1.5 m long.

Re: vag-com & wot = no logging?
Hi Smurfbus - Greetings.
I have the same problem with cut offs or "too many communication errors" or "incorrect protocol". So my unregistered Vag Com is only good for clearing fault codes - something I have done quite a bit of recently.
I thought that it was due to the fact the I am using a generic OBD II interface as well as the unregistered version.
My car is a Jan 99 model with a concert radio - I'd like to try someones Vag Com at the next meet (I can't make the 14th BTW as I'm away)so I can determine if it is the car or the version that is dodgy.

Re: vag-com & wot = no logging?
Do you have version 303.1. If not try it. It helped things a bit. I once managed to take WOT-log (cant understand what was different that time) of block 002 or 003 = g/s and it showed 275 so my MAF should be fine.
Has NE1 S4 99 "no facelift" model and fully operational vag-com?
Or NE1 with concert radio and fully operational vag-com?

Re: vag-com & wot = no logging?
Thanks I'll try updating to the newer version of Vag Com to see if it helps.
Hex-com is the answer!
I bougt a Hex-com few weeks ago and it has been functioning without any problems.
Now that I have a new EGT-sensor all my power seems to be back also ; ) + the added power from the turboback exhaust

For those interested.
Re: Hex-com is the answer!
OK, so I'm interested but what on earth is a 'dongle' in Hex-Com speak?
My Jan 99 S4 has been with a new Audi dealer nearby for a full fault code report and the only things they found were on the radio and central locking - both of which have been modified. In hindsight, I don't have too much confidence in them as they thought it was running fine.
I was hoping to see something on the MAF etc because I'm convinced it's not running as it should/used to.
Will a faulty MAF record a fault code and will a Hex-Com reveal the information?

Dongle means adapter
Maf usually does not leave any DTCs. You can log MAF on engine block 003 to see if it goes high enough. 190-220g/s should be fine for stock motor 250-280 chipped.
Re: Hex-com is the answer!
With faulty MAF mine showed fault codes for lean mixture (on both banks).

yep, should have said sometimes not usually
If the maf is beginning to fail it can be seen logging block 003.
Re: yep, should have said sometimes not usually
Presumably a failing MAF tends to read low as it get's contaminated? IIRC the last time I monitored my air flow it was ABOVE 280 at the peak.

you are stg2+ with turboback
should't the maf burn the debris of if its functioning correctly?
If it get's dirty it might be bad already, or the filtration is very poor.
My peak flow with ship only was 275. I havent measured my stg2+ properly yet since my DV's are leaking or I have a boost leak.

Re: you are stg2+ with turboback
Actually I think the MAF fitted to the S4 is NOT the type which burns off the debris. I read this somewhere. This is of course why they need to be replaced after some time.
I rechecked and my peak was actually 280 g/s and not higher. My peak boost is 1.3 bar. I hope that info helps.
