typical subaru driver?

Post by mbedford » Sat Jun 02, 2007 3:49 pm

I'm not knocking subarus here, by all accounts they're a great car, but I've just had an unfriendly conversation with an owner. I stayed pretty amicable, but he seemed to have a few issues.
The scene was set when I overtook him whilst exiting a roundabout on a stretch of dual carriageway. He had it in his mind that he didn't want me to overtake him...so he put his foot down. He was trying hard but it was all to no avail. A couple of minutes later I stopped at a garage for petrol and he pulled in as well.
Subaru driver got out of his car, along with girlfriend/wife and came up to ask why I had overtaken him, did I feel 'intimidated' by his car. To which I replied 'why..should I be?' He then proceeded to rant on about how his car was newer {07 sti}, and faster than mine. Why do I drive an estate car. Why don't I get a proper car, like a porsche? I'm just an old man trying to re-live my youth{ I'm 41...is that really old?...he was about early 30's}. Blah, blah,blah...
I told him I had nothing to prove and merely wanted to travel a bit quicker than he had been doing. It didn't seem to pacify him though as by this point he had resorted to a string of expletives and hand gestures.
I've never had this kind of problem with other car drivers. Is this solely a subaru thing, has anybody else had a run in with one?

Perhaps it's that new phenomenon called Scooby-rage.
Good thing it didn't turn too nasty.

GardinerG sums it up nicely!

I'd have asked him if he found being overtaken by Porches accptable or does he cry when that happens too? I'd have then told him to get back in his Evo (swapping Scooby/Evo depending on what the owner really has always works a treat in the wind up) and to bugger off!

I used to drive a Scooby. But in my case i knew where my limit was, and it did not come close to having a pop at an RS6. This guy very obviously does not know his cars.

And a rally blue Subaru jacket :D

Like Shaggy, i've been in the Scooby seat, nothing like the RS6 though.
He'd better go and do some homework.

He did have a shaved head. How the hell did you know that!?
Is it compulsory for subaru owners to have their heads shaved or something?

Nah its compulsory for them to have a frontal lobotomy whilst they become tainted and dillusional and their natural instinct to drive like knobheads develops. However, the hair will grow back eventually.....wot a knob he must have been, and what a bunch they are on scankynet!!!
