Is my car standard?
Is my car standard?
Hi guys,
My car still puts the traction light on if I push hard...
But the rear tyres are getting close to the wear marks and the fronts are
nearly new.
Waiting for a bit more wear then hopefully changing them will sort that out.
Thing is I don't know for sure that my car is not chipped.
So, as a paid up VAG com owner what can I test to see if it is all healthy under the bonnet.
I am planning an a visit to MRC for a health check anyway but what's a "correct" MAF reading, boost etc?
Can I tell if the ECU has been modified?
All help appreciated.

RE: Is my car standard?
Have a look at your MAF readings at WOT in 3rd gear - AFAIK if it's standard then it will read somewhere between 210 - 220 g/s ... if it's around the 250 g/s mark or more then that could indicate a re-map ...
Also: look at your spec and actual boost readings - stock peak-boost levels are around 0.8bar .. (~11psi) - if you're getting around 1.1bar (~15-16psi), or more, then that would also indicate a re-map...
Not being a vag-com owner myself i couldn't tell you what blocks to log - but there are many posts on this forum where owners have posted logs and these posts will tell you which blocks to look at ... a judicious search will reveal all you need to know.

Under the engine menu of Vag com have a look at the following channels:
003 = MAF (Remapped car should be about 250 ish)
118 = Boost Pressure (Remapped car should be about 2.3Bar max)
120 = Torque output (Remapped car should be around 500nm)
For the boost pressure that's what vag com reports as it's actually absolute pressure, ie atmospheric pressure plus boost - subtract 1000 for a rough boost pressure calculation.
Hey Julian, How come you've no vag-com - woulda thought you'd be the first to have one

Having worn tyres on one axle and decent ones on the other could cause your TC to cut in continuously, as could poor tyre pressures and crap road surfaces. I'd stick new tyres on the back (decent ones..now there's another thread altogether!!).

115 is for boost on the S4/RS4 - it logs both requested & actual boost!118 = Boost Pressure (Remapped car should be about 2.3Bar max)

Right then...
Off to a PRIVATE road and a bit of VAG comming.
Well when I get back home anyway.
Work has sent me away in a 1.6 Astra estate.
Overtaking is either a thing of the past or dangerous.
Also, I have P6000s so will be changing them after your comments.
The car was always service by QST which is why I wondered.
Cheers

RE: Thanks
Normally they put an "MTM" decal on the back...but you could always call them to ask if the car has been remapped by them. The car was always service by QST which is why I wondered.
