Cheers guys for your comments.
I will wait until i have a new oil filter AND oil pressure switch and try and change both in one go at the weekend.
It is reasuring (to me) that others have had similar problems and have turned out to be simple (if a little fiddly) to fix, just very unnerving to see a major warning light come on!!!!
Red Oil Light (pressure!!)
PHEW!!
After spending a couple of hours under the car this morning i am glad to say that after replacing the oil pressure switch my red oil light has gone out and stayed out.
The old switch was leaking. The inside of the switch was full of oil.
So if anyone else has this issue do not dispare as although it's a right PITA job to do it is possible from beneath the car.
Step 1; Drive car onto ramps or blocks to enable better ground clearance and visability.
Step 2; Remove the plastic undertray
Step 3; Remove the lower intercooler hose that goes between the intercooler and the bottom of the turbo.You will need to undo the jubilee clip on the rubber hose on the IC at both ends then just the jubillee clip on the bottom of the turbo itself (3 clips in total to undo) Once these are loose undo the 2 allen screws that hold the metal mid section in place and remove the IC hoses.
Step 4; Look up and over the top of the oil filter from around the subframe point and locate the switch. It points towards the rear of the car. (mine had a red/white wire running to it) and remove the connector followed by the switch which needs a deep 24mm socket.
Step 5 ; Install new switch and replace hoses and other parts in reverse order, making sure not to overtighten the switch or the jubille clips( Not sure of torque settings but don't go mad
)
Step 6; Check oil level and start car up and run until warm and check for any leaks, then if all is ok go for a spin and stick smile back on face.
