BEWARE Knackered S4 for sale on ebay!!!!

Post by h8cak » Mon May 28, 2007 6:31 pm

Just thought i would let you guys know about this knackered S4 for sale on ebay cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=220114292668&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT&ih=012

Late last year i had a deposit down on this car on the agreement that the guy would get the whining diff repaired. After a lot of tooing and throwing the sale was called off as audi wanted to £4k to sort out the heavily worn propshaft and rear diff. Looking at the advert it has never been repaired and i managed to get the car for £7k with 147k miles on the clock!!! Just dont want anyone on here to get stung thats all.
Cheers

well - ta for the heads up - alhough 4k is steep for what needs doing, mindst - that's main stealers for you.

I'd have a punt at this at £7k - 2nd hand diff and new props should come in at less than a grand IIRC.

It is K04'd after all :-)

But yeah- at this price.....steer clear, especially when Tartan Robs made 8300

I know what u mean about £4k being alot but there was quite a bit wrong with it. Something just wasnt right about the car. It pulled to one side and all sorts. Glad it didnt happen now. Galactic miles aswell!!

Galactic - that's nowt, I've just hit 190k

I'd still have a look at this one if anyone was fairly mechanically minded, could snap up a bargain, as it happens - I doubt this one will sell at this price.

Pulling to one side under normal driving could be geometry / tracking, under braking disk / pad wear and under power would be indicative of diff shenanigans.

In all probability if there are this many un-corrected faults on the car, there's probably a whole load more - doesn't suggest it's been looked after.

For the right price it's worth a shot.

NOT KNACKERED S4

Post by chalkz » Mon May 28, 2007 11:30 pm

Hi
Just thought i'd add to this post, the ad is mine, and I would like to add that the orignal comments are out of line, I am a member of this website and am dissapointed with the orginal message, the car has a small whine from the diff and it has been mentioned so the car can be sold honestly not because the car is knackered, if it was there at 147k then it can't be that bad if it is still very quiet 6k miles later, the car drives straight as a dye and has had a lot of money spent on it in the last few months inc the 19" RS4's, servicing inc diff oils, DVD System etc.. so if people would like to view the car and then comment on it I would accept these comments but to slag of another members car when the last time anyone seen it was towards the end of last year is a bit out of order in my book, I worked for Audi 10 years ago and have owned 6 S4's and One RS4 so feel that I have enough experience of when a car is knackered or not!!!

The prop shaft is about £700. I could not get one any cheaper. The bearings do go, but the inner race is welded onto the saft and therefore cannot be changed...what a waste.

Personally I don't think there's owt in this thread to take offense at - nobody said the cars a shed - only what work they think it needs doing.

Also nobody called your character into question.

That said we all have our opinion of main dealers - so you working there may not be too much to brag about :-P

That last bit is tongue in cheek by the way....

Well the post didn't say nice car but make sure you consider the noisy diff - it said the car was knackered. A little harsh, but a point worth highlighting none the less. On the other hand you haven't hidden this either.

I looked at the pictures and thought what a great looking car, loving the colour and the wheels and looks in very good condition as far as you can see. I actually thought that must be what KayGee's car would look like if he washed it!

Then you'll know what we mean!

Seriously though - there's good and bad in everything, you'll know of guys at your dealers that were better than others.

I've had some shoddy service from VAG main dealers like many others, like 8 trips (I kid you not) to a dealers because the car was in limp mode. This one didn't get resolved until my fleet company (Company car) got Volkswagen UK involved.

We've all got horror stories, but ultimately main dealers get away with it - not like the independent guys like MRC who live and die by their reputations.

dealers work to a bonus system and if the tech spends to long on a specific job the job becomes a loss and the tech loses bonus..
admittedly not all tech's have a clue what there doing but they would have all been trained or capable of fixing the problem..and its easier to say no fault found cos your bonus is safe that way...
when i came out of the workshop i was a quality tester..which means the customer never got his car until i was satisfied it was fixed or a suitable reason was given why not...
MRC have a great rep cos they have time and are not only customer facing but do the work aswell..there,s nothing like a bit of 1to1 with the guy who,s gonna fix ya car..unfortunatly dealers put thicko's on there front desk,s and almost everything is lost in translation...

If you need a propshaft, QuantumJohn was selling one for £60. Thats off a car with 18,000 miles.

I was going to take it off him, but these things rarely go. So grab yourself a bargain. He might even have a diff as well.

Worth a try and car will be tip top.

Cheers nick. There was no offense intended at all. When i viewed the car it was in oxford. And the sale fell through because audi said that the dif and prop were so badly worn that it was dangerous to drive thats why i am so supprised that its still going thats all.
Welcome :)
