Help please for newbie
Picked the car up last night and really enjoying it. A few questions though if anyone can help...
1/ Can anyone point me to a list of options on the RS6 so I know what has been added to my car?
2/ The car has sat nav plus with TV function. The TV gets good reception for some channels, but other channels look distorted. Where is the arial, or how do you improve transmissions?
3/ I have had a little play with the TV and it appears to have an AV setting. Firstly, where is the input? I have had a look and I can't find it... Would it be possible to hook something else into this input, such as a DVD player or Playstation? Does anyone know who could do this for me? Also, the cd player is intermittently saying "no disc" and this is a problem on our other car (Audi S3). Is there a way we could fix it?
4/ The car has a nokia cradle and wires going into the passenger side under the dash. It says NOKIA on it. Is this a standard Audi fit? If so, or if anyone else has it, which NOKIA model of phone is it?
5/ The car I bought has one previous owner and I do believe he was a bit of an 'old-timer.' I opened it up a little last night and was amazed by the performance. I was worried that I wouldn't like the automatic gears (or that I wouldn't be able to use them.) but I have already got used to it. Furthermore, when I did open it up, it was clear that it was probably the first time this car had been drivern hard.
My question is this, whilst I appreciate that it as a 4.2 V8 twin-turbo and will be thirsty on the juice (and also that I am new to it, hence driving differently) is there any way you can keep the mpg high? I drove 5 miles to work in traffic this morning and it said 15mpg. Ok, it was a short journey and the car was still cold once I got there, but I didn't hammer it at all. I have found in our S3 that if you change up into 4th/5th early, you get better economy when cruising. Is there any way you can do this wth the gears in the RS6? Again, I only got the car last night and I am still learning, but the car seems to cruise at 30mph in 3rd, like it is ready to go. I have tried it in tiptronic, changing up into fourth, but I think that it is changing me down automatically into 3rd. Is this normal? How do I get better economy whilst pottering about in normal conditions?
5/ Onto the good stuff, how do you launch the car properly and go quickly, for example in a traffic light Grand Prix or 1/4 mile? Do you have it in sport or tiptronic? Do you just floor it and go? I am confuded wth this being my first automatic. The car grips and is quick to 60, but I can launch the S3 better than the RS6 at the moment. I want that 'back in the seat' feeling. There must be a trick to it.
Well, I hope I don't sound like a boy-racer there. I take pride and care in my cars and am sincerely looking forwards to a happy ownership wth this car, getting involved with meets and shows etc with genuine enthusiasts.
Kind regards,
David
p.s. sorry for the long post

Hi and welcome.
PM craigyb on here for all your NAV/TV/upgrade questions.
Launching, not recommended this one on a regular basis, but left foot on the brake, S mode, take to 4,000 rpm, foot off brake, floor the go pedal. Think you will notice most things are still behind you then...
Otherwise S mode and floor it.
Have fun

I know that mate and I did acknowledge it above. Just asking how to save when toodling. If I wanted all out economy I would have bought a little diesel!morsimon wrote:If you are looking for fuel economy then you have purchased the wrong car - 4.2 litres, twin turbos, 450 horses 0-60 in 4.7 secs !!!!
Can someone please send me a link to Craig's profile? I can't seem to find it.
Thanks for the advice guys

Hi and welcome,
I have only had my car about a month so am a newbie myself!!
To help a bit with your questions....
1. Optional extras I know of include:
Electric folding mirrors
Standard Sunroof and solar sunroof
GSM phone kit (in the front centre console)
18" wheels
Standard 'nice' stuff includes:
BOSE
SAT NAV
Tyre pressure monitors
cruise control
Must be more optionals but cant think?!
2. Ariel - I thought was part of the main GPS ariel on the roof (or maybe the rear screen)?
3. Cant help much here, but having had my unit out, it really comes out easy and am sure that an AV input is on the back. You will need the special keys to get the unit out and have a looksee....
4.Mine has the GSM kit but I would guess that your cradle will fit the old Nokia 6310 models...
5. Fuel economy......I researched this before buying mine and luckely what I read is pretty much what I am getting. To give you an idea:
short fast blasts, I get about 18-19, General round town 21ish, long motorway Journeys with occasional 'that vectra is pi$$ing me off right up my ar$e getaways' 23 - 26.
6. Launch - havent tried bobs method yet, just floored it in S and it was nice!!
Hope this is of some assistance...
Lig.

BTW, in the front of your service book is list of option codes, you can post these to some web sites and get a list of everything installed. It's what I did. (E.g.... http://igorweb.org/equidec/ )
Have a look at the "how to" page. Then you just have to figure out which of them are extras!

On the RS4 the AV inputs are on the TV tuner module which is above the CD multiplayer in the left side boot cubby hole. Not 100% sure it's the same on the RS6, but I expect so. I run a DVD player through mine and the picture/sound is excellent. If you want "TV in motion" you need to disconnect the yellow GALA wire from the back of the head unit.
