Turned on sat nav last night to try and get me through the lanes missing the nasty A23 traffic out of Croydon and I am told that I am on the M11......
So I Checked the GPS Data and the system says 0 out 23 Sat's recieved!
Anyone any idea's? it is the standard Sat Nav on the S4 with the mini display in the dash

I've got exactly the same problem (but mine tells me that I'm somewhere of the Welsh coast!) Have you tried resetting the unit by disconnecting the fuse at the back of the sat nav box in the boot?

Have not tried anything as yet, it only went wrong last night, is it easy to pull the unit out in the boot?

Yes its simple - IIRC there are 3 screws to be undone, all obvious, and then you take out the whole chassis, including the CD changer if you have one. Just be a bit careful of the wiring on the top - you might need to wiggle the chassis a bit whilst removing it to make sure that the cables don't snag.

If you want a newer data CD like the one you have, try Tele Atlas, who make data CDs in various flavours. The Michelin CDs look quite good, but I'm a bit annoyed that the RS 6 came with a 2002 CD that doesn't have a road that was built over 5 years ago on it... [img]images/graemlins/crazy.gif[/img]

My gyrating problem has been fixed this morning by ejecting and reinserting the CD rom. Hopefully it is permanent.

Gyration is back again.
It comes on if I have a destination programmed already and I just hit the start guidance after I have started the car. The eject disk trick did not work either, I had to eject, turn off and on again and put the disk back to make it work again.

Still erratic and coming up with 0 sat's found, but one good point of the day while the car was having it's engine looked at they have found the issue on the SAT Nav and I have a faulty GPS ariel base so that will be replaced

It must be a fault list as Audi told me that my arial could be faulty. I do get up to 8 satelites though and it stil puts me into the middle of the harbour.....

I have lost all satelittes now, and the car told me i was in Devon rather than Croydon the other day which would of been nice if only it were true

Hey dog, when you say "gyration", do you mean that the map display shows you going round in great big circles?
In my S8 once, I was stuck in a traffic jam, rolling forward at about 3/4mph and I passed under a bridge and lost sat signals. From that point onwards, the Nav display showed me making a slow right hand turn that over the course of about 10 minutes had me making big lazy spirals - if the Nav unit showed a trail of where you went, it would have looked like a lightbulb filament. This continued until I got moving above about 25mph, when it suddenly corrected itself.
My guess is that the sat signal got lost, then the unit switched to the dead reckoner. The reckoner uses data from the GALA speed signal, which is sourced from the ABS sensors IIRC. Dirty ABS sensors can lead to a wheel giving false speed readings, which could manifest itself as a slow looping motion. Either that or the internal gyroscope on the Nav unit is a bit out of kilter.
Do you live anywhere where tall buildings could block the sat signal for a while? If so, you could have an accuracy issue with the reckoner, and something could be preventing you from locking onto the sats again (could signal reflection from buildings do this?). I've seen odd Nav behaviour after coming out of hotel underground car parks and the reckoner has had me over 50m away from my actual position, then because of crowding buildings, it didn't correct until I got onto the open road.
