DEFI Boost Head Up Display

Post by Doug_RS2 » Thu Jun 26, 2003 11:49 pm

Anyone used one on their Audi?

What's it like during the day?

Anyone got more info on them?

Yes.
No problem (I don't wear sunglasses though).
Start with my website www.dpe.org.uk (go to the small window by the door) - theres a small write-up.
I can provide more info if there's enough interest.

There's more interest from me - Looks cool - I didn't realise it was that big sitting on the dash - I suppose cutting into the dash might be a possibilty.

Can you angle the display further up the window or do you have to physically move the module further away from the window?

Is there an analogue display of boost or a digital read out?

I'm not really interested in the turbo timer - the alarm sorts that out. Is it just a case of wiring power, lights-on wiring and a turbo pressure hose?

I've seen it for £114 - anywhere cheaper?

Cheers

Yes you can angle it to make it higher, but that would distort the image. The idea is that the height is governed by how far back you mount it, and the angle is then adjusted so that the image is not stretched.

As you note, mine is almost so low that it's no point being HUD. However I didn't want the image in my sight all the time. I'm happy where it is because I can look at it and still see the road ahead with peripheral vision, which I find I can't do with the other instruments.

The analogue part of the gauge is the oval track around the digital display.

Yes it's just wiring as you say - you wouldn't need the TT which is an extra box wired to the control box. The boost gauge is another box which can be mounted remotely (nearer the bulkhead) so that the vacuum hose can be kept very short.

I can't remember what I paid but I think it was a bit more than that so you've a good price there.

This is the official agent for Defi Gauges in the UK. Good guy who fitted them in when I had a Subaru.
