Oil change or not?

Millers 40 cst truck running in oil!!
Combined with 0-40 castrol race, combined with 0 30 castrol Audi <beep>, think ill put a drop of something else in soon. Basically any <beep> I can get my hands on. Trouble is most of my oils are just too bloody good. I usually go to my mates and beg for the sh1t1est. What’s new!

Question very important.
What are the clearances on the b7 ?
Suggest 0.045 mm ? If pos?

Has millers 10 -60 cfs been tested in the b5?

What is the right bottom end clearances for 10-60
Suggest 0.055? - .0065?

Building bottom end tomorrow using plasti gauge so would love to know your thoughts? Proper Rs4 B5 !

A few points of order here.

Remember the VW504.00 & 507.00 are the new standards for petrol and diesel replacing all but a few specs (Toureg Diesel V10 being one).

If an oil carries the VW 504.00 approval then it's fine to use, brand makes no difference at all, it's the spec that counts!

We have 3 on our website for example by Castrol, Fuchs and Motul, they all meet the specs so unless brand foats your boat, buy on price.

As a point of order, FUCHS in Germany is the Factory fill oil company for your cars, not Castrol. Castrol have the aftermarket position and stickers are applied once they hit the Dealer regardless of the fact that the oil in the sump is FUCHS factory fill equivalent of Their VW504.00 Titan GT1 LLIII 5w-30.

Finally, track addicts beware, these oils are not race oils, they are street oils and not the best when subjected to the track.

You change the parameters when you track the car and race oils are a safer bet as they are designed with higher tolerances and not to meet a specific spec as per the OEM's requirements.

Thank you for your input. Your information on Fuchs Titan GT1 is quite interesting. It explains quite a bit I've seen in oil analysis of RS4 factory fill in the US. If you are correct, this is a very fine oil indeed. Of the three 504 oils that you mention, I would highly recommend it. There are some things about it's base chemistry that make it quite unique and special in this engine.

As for the letter of the warranty requirements, you are correct in saying that any of these 504 oils can be used. However, just because they meet the minimum requirements of the spec, does not mean that they have the same performance.

Not wanting to talk out of school here, it is an excellent oil and of the 3 I sell it would be my choice in these cars. (For road use)

You see Fuchs is German and they have extremely close relationships with all the German car manufacturers and hold the majority of the factory fill positions with VAG, BMW, MB and others

I know for a fact that the new VW504/507 specs where developed as a partnership between VAG and FUCHS to simplify the over complicated VW oil specs.

Fuchs are a very large and high tech company and they also own many brands including the excellent Silkolene here in the UK.

Small point but I think Castrol is moulded on the filler cap and not a dealer applied sticker. Possible that different filler caps used for different markets depending on local marketing deals. I agree that the main thing is the 504/507 spec. I had an S4 and my dealer suddenly changed from the 0-30W Castrol Longlife 2 to the Mobil 1 5-30W ESP which I think was out before the Castrol Longlife 3 /Edge. I nteresting that Fuchs used by factory. Is Fuchs tied to any Petrol brand (BP/Castrol, Esso/Mobil etc)?

Andy, your owners manual should state the oil requirement for your engine, which is audi/vw 504.00 standard. All you should have to do is to point this out and then show them the 504 approval on the Fuchs bottle. There should be no questions after this. You dealer is either ignorant (sometimes the case) or they make a good deal of money on oil changes (most likely the case), by charging you a large markup on Castrol Edge, which they purchase in bulk.

As a close to the thread, I hope! I am going to just use what is recommended by Audi as they desigen the car and saw fit as to what the car needed also, its under warranty and believe that they know what they are doing, its also easy to get hold of and isn't that badly priced.

I will do this every 4000 miles, unless I track the car or hard drive it for any reason and then I will do it earlier.

Have changed the oil. It was done at 3800 and it looked, not so great, Didn't send it off for analysis but non the same it looked pants. No bits in the filter but was very black!

I will continue to change every 4000 or so now, regardless of what Audi say.

2.5p per mile is worth it for me and piece of mind.
