Dump Valves

Post by MEPS » Tue May 08, 2007 4:02 pm

I have just had the management light come on and I have had somone check it for me and it is saying something along the lines of air leak. My question is I have the uprated valves and it looks like they have started to fail now is it worth going down the forge route or just buy new uprated ones again and has anyone got knowledge of the uprated valves part nos.

Do you really mean Dump Valves?? I used forge BPVs, and when I changed to the RS6 I bought a maintenance kit for £3 each to replace the seals etc before fitting them to it.

IMHO, worth the money as you never should need to replace them, just check them every 12,000 miles or so.

Do you mean uprated as in Bosch 710N's or something else? There's no such thing as a fit and forget BPV - the forge (all other pistons valves) need an annual service to replace the o-rings and re-grease, so my advice would be to fit a(nother?) set of 710Ns and have them checked at each service.

Buy hey, what do I know?

Nige, re Forge BPVs... to be clear they should be tested every 12,000 miles and the maintenance kit used if needed, but £3 is alot cheaper than replacing the OEM BPVs. IMHO.

FYI, the kit includes piston, all seals and grease.

Surely they are tested everytime you drive the car??? They need to be removed and opened up - why not replace all the seals, pistons at the same time (BTW, Forge gave me a service kit FOC).

Worth bearing in mind that a set of Forge jobbies will set you back over £200, whereas the 710N's are less than £40 and TBH this is the first time I've heard of any problems with 710Ns - maybe the air leak error code is something more seious?

Are you having a bad day Nige? By testing, I mean take out of car and test as per Forge's instructions. But you are right, as it only costs £3 a pop replace all the bits anyway. I put the OEMs back in when I sold the car.

 not yet, it's spent too much time at audi! I've refurbed the valves all ready to go... want to replace some of the hoses too. No rest for the wicked, I just had to fit the HUD first... ;-)
