Upgrade News - The Good / bad / Ugly

Post by sykotoy » Thu May 03, 2007 9:26 am

Hi guys,

Well i spoke to the Audi guy today, he just arrived back from Germany.

To cut a long story short.....

2 items only in Development for RS4..confirmed

Chip -

In late stage of R+D, the chip is real and is currently installed on some German test cars being driven ATM..... how long this will go on, or if it is close to completion is unknown by my guy, but there is a chip and it is coming!!!
it sounded like he had asked some questions, and sounded believable

Exhaust system-

In R+D stage again, he dosent know how far along it is, he didnt know if already installed on test mule.

So at this stage the chip seems to be the only sure thing...i guess it could have been worse news.

its all i have for us atm... im a little dissapointed re exhaust, i have H+R springs /sway bars fitted next week, will post pics, but what i realy wont is exhaust, considering ordering Miltek/non res/valved/catback tomorrow. would really appreciate any feedback from miltek owners.

regards

SyKo

Sykotoy, thanks for finding all this out.

Sounds like Miltek is the best bet at the moment. Catback I heard means you retain your warranty. If you go for a full system with 100/200 cell cats, and miltek downpipes, you will have to remap the car, hence warranty goes out of the window. One could then argue however that the map will be specific to the car and hence improve reliability further.

Re: "chip", I don't see how a new ECU would be required or even necessary. They could just download new maps into the current item, which I suspect is what the ECU updates everyone has been having in the UK are all about. I'd be very surprised if they make a generic "aggressive" map available for download at a dealer without individual car mapping.

so is it the opinion of this forum that cat back - for noise mostly/and maybe a few horse ($5800)AUS is the way to go instead of full system($9800)aus which may lead/cause other situations? for maybe same noise/horses?
