New owner upgrade questions

Hi All,

I'm a proud new owner of a mint black rs2, 44000 miles. Although I'll be getting to know the car over the next few weeks I am already looking at tuning it and would appreciate any recommendations.

I have read about ECU upgrade, exhaust, air filter, larger cup wheels, suspension and brake upgrade and DV for example which I've seen in other forum posts - is this a good route to start with??? I would like to tune the car to give it better performance but not to affect reliability as I plan to use the car regularly. I have a new boxster S aswell which I love but have not owned a turbo car sine R5 days probably 12 years ago which put me off turbo cars until now. :)

Any help would be really appreciated. Thanks.

Oh and another question...

I seem to see that MRC come highly recommended but I live 10 miles from the most easterly point in England....Doh! Anyone closer to the East coast who can be recommended to go to??? Thanks

If my geography serves me right you would be near Lowestoft..?

I am in Norwich and have recently heard good things about Clive Atthowe

I can't comment perosnally though some workmates have had stuff (remap and brakes (only on a TT :roll: )) and been impressed.

Scottyboy is out this way and he swears by MRC. Even factoring in a 3hr ish journey.

Hi Mark,

Well I did drive to wales to buy the car so I guess MRC seems like a good move as I want the best job done.... Although I will keep Clive's details for future reference. I too have heard of him, he's been around a long time I believe as new of him when I was into R5's.......

You have an RS2?

Hi Dan,

Congrats on the purchase. 44,000 Miles eh... I beleive their to be only two other RHD RS2's with less mileage. Is your's RHD?

Tuning wise, even with only 44,000 miles I would recommend fitting new suspension bushes and top mounts:

MRC - custom remap. This would take it to about 370ftlb and 370 BHP, although you can opt for more torque if you want to risk it... Personally, I wouldn't go anywhere else. Mihnea has custom tuned more RS2's globally than anyone else. Ideal to fit a Miltek exhaust prior to the re-map. Custom re-map is not the same as an off the shelf 'chip'.

Quattronics - Corey, is your man here. In particular, Corey can fit new Pro-Top Mounts. Expensive, but will last and last unlike the OEM top mounts. Will make the car turn in and feel much more 'pointy'.

Corey, can also advise on your brakes. His GT3 monoblock upgrade with Goodridge hoses is probably your best bet for the fronts - maybe even the rear too. This is a major improvment in an otherwise underbraked car. Also get's around the awfull corrosion issues with the OEM brakes. Even looks stock too!

Either of the above can help with fitting new suspension bushes. After that the car will steer and handle much better. Will feel less tired.

I bought my car last year with just 48,000 miles and this all made a massive improvement.

Also suggest visiting the S2forum and many many more RS2/S2 experts there....

Dan,

I looked at an rs2 at MCP Motorsports in Sheringham. Very very nice cars they are. I am afraid I ended up with an S4 avant. Had I have seen one with similar mileage to yours and RHD I might well have re-considered. I will keep a look out for you as my in-laws are in Kessingland.

Hi Guys, thanks for your kind words and advice, Nexus, I have put MRC and Quattrophonics in my favourites already thinking and reading they were a good bet and you have confirmed this. Yes mine is RHD, 2 previous owners the last has had it for 9 years. It's done pretty much 3000 a year since new. It's being delivererd next week after a full service, mot etc etc. Basically I was looking for a larger 'more practical' car and have always had audis/porsche and have been intregued by the RS2. When I stumbled upon this one I had to have it. I'm looking forward to owning joining the fraternity of owners of this now getting even rarer car. Used to do the whole R5 owners club back in the day and am looking forward to meeting new faces....... I know I have payed probably too much for it but I believe they are so rare in this condition I just couldn't pass on the opportunity.

Doh! You just made me waste 5 minutes searching everywhere for this new tuner "Quattrophonics" I'd never heard of :roll: :)

Lloyd, was your car the pearl one that sat around highland audi for some ?years, having been stored ? What sort of condition was it in when you got it ?

This one is RS Pearl Blue. Not sure if it was ever at Highland Audi - don't think so. This one was bought privately by Chris Klinkert of Parva Prestige Motors before selling it on to me. (Wish I had found it before he did - would have saved myself a couple of grand!!)

Not sure it's been stood much - the service book indicates average of 5k miles per year since new.

Incidentally, Chris is the same chap who has just sold Dan the 44,000 Mile RS2. Seems he has a keen eye for finding super low mileage examples! :D
