Hi everyone,

I am a bad RS6 Avant owner.

Every couple of weeks I get my local handwash guys to clean my car but I never give her the attention she deserves. I've never lovingly polished her, or buffed her ample rump. Even though she's been given a nice DVD nav system and bluetooth connection (Thanks Craigyb), I get the feeling that jewels and trinkets are not enough.

I want to treat her to the equivalent of a Spa weekend with the girls. Can anyone recommend a good professional detailer in the London area that will do her justice? Get her looking like the feisty minx she was when we first met.

8 hours at £25 to mint up an Ibiza, thats £200! For an RS6 avant, I reckon you would need atleast 12 hours, thats £300...........

Personally, I would rather do it myself. You could get all the materials you need for less than £100, add some elbow grease and you would beable to do it more than once too!

Audi paint is very hard, so in order to remove swirls you'll need a polishing machine (or large biceps and several days of continous arm action). For the amateur/enthusiast, the random orbit polisher is the safest, not the cheapo rotaries available in discount stores and B&Q.

Also, you'll need to know what you're doing, trying different grades of quality polishes (not T cut ) and work over a small section at a time (no more than 2ft x 2 ft). The guys who do this professionally will have all of the equipment and know-how needed to do a good job.

Like Rupert says. if you want a "proper" profesional job then these are the guys. Basically after they have finshed all you will have to do for the next 6 months is rinse and dry. They have all the kit, pay anal attention to the car.

Fair do's, I dont think mine looks too bad for its age, but then again I've never paid anyone to do it so I could compare.

£25 per hour including VAT and materials is very good value I suppose!

Im pretty fussy when it comes to people washing my car.

I never take it to any hand car wash place because i normally do it myself (ZYMOL Rules)

The only other person i let touch it is GTS valeting based out of Borehamwood Herts,
The chap is fully Autoglmy and Zymol approved and he is fully insured.

As mentioned without seeing the car I would have to say you would be looking at a maximum time of 12 hours which at £25ph works out at £300, and a travel surcharge of £50.

As I mentioned this maximum price is just that, if I was to finish in 8 hours then that is all you would be charged for, if however I spend 15 hours you will only pay the max price.

You'll love it ... Swissvax/Swissol is awesome stuff!!!

Rupert is spot on ... VAG paint is notoriously hard and you will get nowhere doing paintwork correction doing it by hand. It's hard enough work with the Portercable and the latest Menzerna polishes. For a first time swirl correction I think a rotary is required purely for speed and power ... personally I'm not confident enough to tackle a rotary so I prefer to get a professional detailer in to do it. On a good day I could maybe get 75% of the way there but after seeing the results of pro-detailers hard work for me the cost is worth the extra 25%. As already stated expect them to put in a good 10 to 12 hour day on an avant ... it's a big car to do.

Thereafter as Shaggy eloquently puts it once the hard work is done it's a simple case of washing it over and popping a coat of wax every 2 or 3 months.
