Heard some horror stories regarding McGards over on Tyresmoke. Several memebers have spoken about the key way rounding off and them having to have the wheel bolt drilled out. Also read of some shearing. One members bolt sheared when he was driving back from France.

Usually as a result of some muppet tightening them with an impact gun, all wheel studs should have dry threads and be torqued to the correct value. Which is 110Nm btw

I hadn't heard about problems with McGards so thanks for the heads up. However, it does sound as though there is a reasonable chance the problems may have arisen as a result of overtightening. I haven't had any problems or even any comment from my regular tyre people or the stealer.

In the end though I have to say that, if there is a reasonable chance that spending £35 on a set of McGards will deter the scum who nicked my wheels, causing over four grands worth of damage, increased insurance premium and me to be without a motor for three weeks then I'm going to use them.

I would be interested though to hear if anyone knows of any useful alternatives.

Cheers

I would make sure you have spacers with TUV approval, H+R and Eibach are, not sure about "mcgards".
Generally spacers over 10mm have the center mount for the wheel spigot. Plus you will need longer radius seat bolts, if running oe wheels.

Not necessarily, the bloke who got stranded in France was tightening the wheel with the standard audi wheel brace when the Mcgards lock sheared. Lesson learnt - make sure you have a spare key - although it only took the Audi dealer in Paris 10 mins to forceably remove all 4 Mcgards locks in the end.

Always nice to see a Picture of your car on a thread.

I have 10mm spacers ( H&R) no issues, and whomever said small fortune was correct, but the car needed it...feels 500 pounds lighter.

The roads here in Southern California are decent so no issues.

Cheers!
