have you done this conversion yourself? because the jump from a 18mm to 26mm dia arb is a big jump and may affect the handling too much and have a detrimental effect even with an RS2 arb on the front. whats your opinion?

With 26 mm at the rear the car is going to be soooo tail-happy especially in the wonderful British rain! Fun if you want it but might be too unpredictabe in emergency situations for some drivers. Suggest something like 16 or 18 would be more appropriate to match the fronts from an RS2.
Do you know of any other models that can donate a smaller size to the S2 Coupe (with or without other mods)?

I don't know. Suspect the standard rears were smaller than the S2 ones however.

I have not done conversion myself. I just had a larger bar made. I am running a 20mm bar in the rear and I still have understeer when I push it.
I have driven a coupe with 4000q (80Q for you), with the conversion. It is tail happy, but I have always liked that in a car.
You know if you look at EKTA, the all the S2s whether coupe, saloon, or avant all show the same rear bar. It is listed as 12.5mm. I realized the RS2 is just an avant, but if Audi uses all the same bars on the S2 no matter what model, should reason that Avant bar from RS2 should fit a coupe or saloon. Audi lists the rear bar for RS2 as 16mm.

Hi,
Hope you don't mind a yank chiming in on this rear sway bar issue for coupes. Here in the states, one of the options for rear sway bar is to use the front lower suspension arms from a 4000K quattro, replace the rear arms on the coupe, and then you can use the 26mm off the front of that car.
The arms bolt right up to replace the rear lower arms on the coupe.
Should be big enough for your needs.
The S2 has droplinks from the strut that the swaybar/arb connects to. The rear arb on the coupe also connect to the droplinks to the rear of the strut - so it doesn't bend over the driveshaft like the front - the front ARB would be too long(if it even fitted the rear subframe mounts). A bit of machining might be able to make the front ARB fit but that would shorten the ARB a good few inches and stiffen it up even more(am i right?) Not a very technical approach - more a bodge - but might try it!

I hope this Whiteline ARB lives up to our hopes. My S2 has gawd awful understeer at the moment even with decent tyres on 17" rims. I nearly took the front wheel off today while throwing it round a roundabout.

Lee - have you got that picture of the avant rear ARB? with a couple of measurements?
Since I'm in the process of changing the suspension on my s2 coupe i'm going to see if fitting the rear struts on the opposite sides will make the standard front ARB fit - moving the droplinks from the rear of the strut to the front - making the rear ARB go over the driveshafts. It's still probably be too big an ARB but worth a try - maybe then a ARB from a lower spec audi might fit - or an avant??????? Or that you have increased the ARB arms length from 250mm to 400mm might bring the thicker ARB back to a more reasonable match to the RS2 front(I'm sure you know how to do the calculations on that Lee?)

good news mate, have to let me know how this one goes. had lots of bills the last month or two [img]images/graemlins/frown.gif[/img] so no chance to spend money on the niceties.

Sorry Dougal, have been away for the last two weeks and am slowly catching up on posts. I had 400 posts on S2Central to get through and haven't even read through all of those properly yet. I have a day off today and after I go to see my bank at lunchtime I will take the picture for you this afternoon. My mate was using my digital camera as he is house hunting and wanted to take pictures for his missus who is abroad. Camera back now too so no excuse for me!!!

Cheers Lee - I'll see tomorrow if I think this will fit. I tried to get the front S2 ARB on the back but I thought it wasn't going to fit. Although I here you need to bend the droplinks to get it to work - I don't like that idea.
In the pics of your car it looks as if it sits low - I thought you said it was on standard springs/shocks - how much room is between the top of your wheel and the arch?

Although I here you need to bend the droplinks to get it to work - I don't like that idea.
Bad idea to bend the drop links - you will comprimise their mechanical properties. Make new shorter ones from a couple of spherical bearings and a steel rod. You can't bend the plastic links anyway.
In the pics of your car it looks as if it sits low - I thought you said it was on standard springs/shocks - how much room is between the top of your wheel and the arch?
My car has standard ride height. The wheels are only marginally bigger (830 versus 820 revs per mile). The width does fill the arches a lot. They touch slightly during spirited driving on twisty bumpy lanes but haardly ever on the highway. I will get the arches professionally flared but might get even wider wheels if I do that. I ordered a new 5 megapixel camera yesterday (instead of tuning godies!) so that I can post up some better pictures.

Where do I get spherical bearings? What's involved in this? One end on the back drpolink is just a bush anyway - could remove the bush and cut and weld the metal rod. My rear droplinks are metal - the front were metal but just replaced them with plastic things.
