Getting messed around a bit by the dealer...advice plz

Post by markwm » Thu Mar 29, 2007 11:47 am

I agreed a deal with my dealer on the 20th March for a RS4 saloon that was available for 'immediate delivery'(cancelled order). I negotiated a decent discount because they wanted to shift the car by the end of their financial year(March, or so I was told).

Deal done, I rushed to sell my current car which I did on the 22nd within 24 hours of putting it on sale. I also got all the funding sorted out. On the 23rd March the dealer mails me to say that the car is not actually in the country as he believed. He thought it was on the lot in another dealers within the same group but apparently not. Anyways, he said it would be here over the weekend so I wasn't too put out. But I'm still told the deal needed to be done by 1st April(ie, they have their monies).

Now 6 days later the dealer has just found out that my car has missed another shipment to the UK and still remains in Germany!!!! He's now uncertain whether it will be here for easter or not. I'm furious to say the least!!!

Now, I'm not happy paying for the car in full, them registering it before april and not knowing when I'm actually going to get it. Takes the piss really.

However, the deal I got was a good one, but it was done on the basis the car was instantly available. Now it is not, that changes things slightly don't you think?

I'm currently without a car for one thing. Given I rushed to sell mine under the understanding as soon as it was sold it wouldn't be long before I could pick up my RS4.

Heard from the dealer again, he forgot to say that they can't register it anymore if it isn't in the country. I dunno what the heck is going on...

Get them to give you a loaner until yours arrive. Give Audi UK a call, I think they have a dedicated RS dept and let them know your unhappiness etc

I've put over my un-happyness and they're going to see about a loaner. I'll see what else I can get as well

Im in a similar situation, my RS4 has been sitting completed and ready to leave the factory for 7 weeks! Was orginally told I'd have the car for 1st March so sold my M3 in anticipation of the car arriving on time and arranged a hire car for the week in between. Long story short, the car still isnt here and Audi UK gave me an A4 2.0 TDI loaner after I shouted loudly  Im told the car has now left the factory and is on its way and will be ready to collect in 2 weeks, at this rate I'll believe it when i see it.

Something sounds odd - I ordered mine on 16th Feb, and have just been asked to arrange insurance for w/c 16th April. That's exactly two months for a factory build, with memory seats which meant going through the audi exclusive programme. Either I'm going to come back from holiday and be severely disappointed, or somethings gone wrong with your one...

For what it's worth, I ordered mine on 2 Feb and was given a provisional delivery date of 25 April. Then I was told build would w/c 16 April and delivery should be a couple of weeks after that.

As a result of reading this thread I have just put in a call and been told delivery is now scheduled for around 8 May!

I'll obviously be very interested to hear how yours progress and I'll keep you posted on mine.

Cheers

Tony

I still see there's plenty of people ordering them new then at this stage, 4 of us in this thread.

My situation is a little different due to the fact I was sold the car under the assumption that it was on the lot available for immediate delivery. Not stuck in germany missing boats.

Maybe it's down to the build slots that the dealers have actually reserved, rather than a straight first come, first served. I'll try to keep you updated on my progress, but I'll be away for a fortnight so it might go quiet!

Maybe that's it. I have never bought an Audi before and I'm not familiar with how they organise this kind of thing.

I'm sure it'll be worth the wait but I'd rather I didn't have to!

Is it then a good thing to buy the car "used" with 500, 1000, 2000 miles on it, with instant delivery ?

Audi stealers have got bad reputation in the whole world (at least, USA, England, Switzerland, France...)

I guess there are pros and cons to both. I went 'new' in the end though because I wanted finance and the deal I was offered on a new one meant that I would actually end up paying less over three years than if I bought the second hand one I fancied (with 3K on the clock and a year older)!

My heart now wishes I'd bought the second hand one but I would probably be suffering more buyer's remorse than normal by now knowing that I'd made the wrong decision from a VFM point of view.

Yeah but a "used" car with 1000 miles on it, or 3k it's a lot cheaper, and I guess you get a better deal that way even if the financing isn't better.

Why do you regret the 2nd hand one ? Are the monthly payments + insurance expensive for the RS4 ?

No - it really would have cost me more to buy the one year old car because the best finance deal I found was only available on new vehicles and the only finance I could find for the second hand one was at a considerably higher rate. I don't really know but basically I think this is because the people I have gone with make a lot of their money from the discounts they achieve as a result of the amount of business they put to maufacturers.

I only regret not buying the second hand one at the minute because if I had I would have one standing on my drive now rather than having another 6 weeks or so to wait. I know that in the end the new one will have been the right decision financially at least.

As for insurance and monthly payments, they are what they are. Personally I don't think many insurance policies offer any great value for money and cars like these are always going to demand high premiums but I am comfortable with what I have been quoted. On the finance front I just look for value and I managed to get a fixed rate of just under 7% which might not be the best in the world but it was onsiderably better than anything I was quoted anywhere else.

Cheers

Tony
