RS4 upgrades - advice request...
RS4 upgrades - advice request...
I just bought my second RS4. A black one. This one is so much faster than the previous one that it has clearly been modified (and had a 'Cosworth' badge on the back when I first inspected it at the dealer). The (Audi) dealer didn't tell me anything other than that it has about 450 bhp and a suspension upgrade + shortshifter. Any ideas how to find out what has been done to it? As you can probably tell, I'm not very mechanically minded...
Thanks!
Gordon

Re: RS4 upgrades - advice request...
To get to 450bhp this is classed I guess as a stage 2 upgrade
Mny tuners offer this.
So stage 1 is basically a remap to give circa 420/430bhp, and circa 100lb ft additional torque, dependant on tuner
Stage 2 is as above with a full flow exhaust and new 100 cell cats as opposed to standard 400 cell cats. This will give as much as 463bhp and 650Nm of torque
Suspension mods and brake mods are another option people go for. As is a short shifter
The exhaust most commonly used is Milltek and the exit pipes are larger than standard
As for cosworth tuning i wouldnt know
I did hear of a guy in Newbury Berks who had a black tuned RS4 by Cosworth which was claimed as over 550bhp but never saw the car and the guy had a reputation for extending the truth - alledgedly as i have never met him, just heard rumours.
I heard that his car had twin exhausts, one either side of the car, like a quad set up, but again i cannot confirm this
The only way to check is to ring the obvious tuners, MTM, AmD etc and see if they have worked on the car using the registration as a reference
Alternatively try contacting the previosu owener identified in the log book
Anything else we can help you with just ask
Or turn up at the rolloing road day and get it tested

Re: RS4 upgrades - advice request...
Could well be the previous owner put the Cossie badge on for effect as it was Cosworth who prepared the RS4 engines?
Whereabouts was the original owner from (V5 will tell you) as that might limit the potential number of tuners he might have used.

Re: RS4 upgrades - advice request...
Thanks for that fellas,
I tried without luck to get hold of the previous owner, but he was indeed from Newbury Berks.... and the dealer also said that although the tailpipes are now standard, it had a strange exhaust which had been removed before it came to them... intriguing.... All I know is that my poor old labrador finds he's being 'chipped' through the dog guard with rather more force nowadays.... Me, I just want to be sure that the car is not 'over-stressed' and about to blow apart at any moment...! It's brilliant though, love it!

A loon from the toon well nearly....
Could indeed be Cosworth as RS4Steve mentioned somebody had been there before for further work (apart from the heads which are Cosworth tweaked anyhow). Is there anyway you can check the ECU? Should tell the story.

Thanks guys, but 'Check the ECU'....??? Isn't that a currency? I hardly know how to check the oil.....
Maybe I should contact Cos direct - but would they have done the work themselves?
