Which diverter valves are you using?

Post by CliveH » Sat Mar 17, 2007 12:43 am

Sorry if this has been done before, but I couldn't find it.

So please tell us which DVs your car has and, if other than stock, why you chose them.

On arriving at MRC for the cars health check as a newby I was told the stock 710A's were actually functioning fine but that wouldn't last long. On went the 710Ns without a blink as I was happy to go with the advice given.

Had I been at a different tuner that had a shiney alternative for sale, I have no doubt I possibly would have opted for it (although might then have not been so game for the remap afterwards!).

However, I have no doubt considering the tuner that the part is up to the job , for me this gave confidence in the part and confidence in the tuner - the fact I was not offered a shiney alternative for four times the price each.

I'm not saying the other parts aren't better and don't have their place, but hopefully I am not misinformed that they have no relavance on my vehicle in it's current state of tune.

I agree Graham.

I also took MRC's advice and have 710Ns fitted to both the S4 and S2. I'm also convinced that they're perfectly up to the job, but as they also use a diaphragm, they dont last forever, so I'm just looking at the "long life" alternatives, and it's one less thing to eliminate when you have problems...

i use 701n but my s2 used a forge 007 - but that gets a new piston and seal every so often becasue they stop sealing on the piston seat.

i,m with you clive and and graham............

I also took Dougs advice and fitted 710Ns when mine went in for a health check, the fact that i didnt opt for bling pssssst only dawned on me once i drove off and reflected on the fact that i,d just spent half the price of a shiny one on two OE ones, :D

mind you i nearly didnt pay for them at all and was trying to work out what was going on when Doug fired into life and duly attached them to my bill.

How many do you give away a month Doug ? ????????

By the way i,m about ready for that re-map.............

i never knew about the OEM valves being good enuf to keep so thats why i changed them..i got my short-shifter from AMD so i thought id get my DV's from there too..they worked very well although when i got my car the maf was dead and i changed so much at once i couldn't really see the improvement sraight away..

Fitted Bailey's to mine. Originals were leaking and I was producing 150bhp on the r/r so the baileys were fitted as that's what they had in stock. Haven't had any probs with them yet (fitted 2 years/50k miles ago).

Tried the 007P on both cars and never got used to the lag they seemed to give when changing gear at motorway speeds - ended up with 710N again - never actually had a problem with them, but I do get them checked on a regular basis.

Oh, and the Forge jobbies do need servicing once a year too - my last ones were seized!

Interesting comment Nige - most of the aftermarket DVs claim to provide less lag and better return to boost...

Surely not, I thought it was widely accepted that piston DV's react slower than diaphragm DV's, hence why Forge have spent £000's trying to perfect their race diaphragm DV. In reality, there should be little noticeable difference between the 2 types, but I noticed it straight away when going back to the 710N. I also tried the DV's in the other way around (as advised by Forge when I fitted them to my S4) - didn't notice much difference doing that.
