Is there any point in owing a half decent car?
There is a mint looking B5 RS4 not that far from me that is up for sale that I have been particularly tempted with.
The big thing that detracts from having a car like that is the worry of someone pinching it including the likely force or threats that may be made to get it.
This was highlighted recently after spending over 3 hours at our local hospital with my 2 year old to find that someone has tea leafed the wheel trims from the wifes new peugeot. From a bl**dy A&E car park. Not in the same league as a whole Audi going missing but still some opportunist scum out there.
It doesn't matter how resectable your neighbourhood is you have to park the car somewhere when you go out.
You only have to look at the two sticky posts in this section to see what low lifes there are out there.
Perhaps the solution is to just drive round in a beaten up 10 year old jap saloon to blend in.
Is anyone else as nervous as me about their 4 wheeled possesions or should I see a doctor?!

I worry about where I park but at the end of the day it's only a car. I'm not going to spoil my fun because of the small amount of scum out there
I just hope they have a short and unfulfilled life!

I put the sticky posts back to normal dates - Suggest you go and buy the car, enjoy it, and if anything happens, remember it's just a car!!QuantumJohn wrote:You only have to look at the two sticky posts in this section to see what low lifes there are out there.

Had mine for 3 years and love every minute. I'm not deterred by theft problems...as said above, it's only a car (I can't beleive I just agreed that it's "only a car"). Your more likely to have a 10 year old car nicked because the security on them is so poor, and the old bill won't be so inclined to look for it either.
You might consider a tracking device or an after market anti-jacking alarm too.

I had the same thoughts about my car before buying, but as already said above, don't let the scum of the earth stop you from enjoying yourself... Thats part of the reason for Insurance after all.
the S / RS cars seem to be more discreet than things like the BMW M Cars and 911's etc... In my opinion, out of the performance cars in the market place your less likely to have issues as the Audi's are more stealth-like and discreet, exactly what I like about them!

RE: Re: Is there any point in owing a half decent car?
Sometimes I feel Id have been better off driving round some scratched up old banger. I do tend to worry alot about my car, which in itself is a burden. Coming back to the parking space in tecso to find another ding in the door really irritates me. Even on the road, I feel I have to drive more defensevly than I would if it was a company car or something..
Ive even thought about getting a banger for the work run, and shopping etc, and leave the S for times when I can keep a good eye on it.

All BLOW and no GO.........

This is exactly what I have done, banger for supermarket dodgems and to leave at the train station.dr_wimpkins wrote:Ive even thought about getting a banger for the work run, and shopping etc, and leave the S for times when I can keep a good eye on it.
RS6 is locked in a monitored alrmed out-building behind electric gates and deep in the middle of the countryside. To be honest this is the only way I can now justify having the RS6, looking back when I lived elsewhere, I really did get myself wound up with worry. Get yourself a 2 grand sh1t heap and enjoy the RS4 when you know you don't have to ruin your day thinking about the nasies that crawl the earth.
RS4 B5. Where it all started.
RS6+ Never to be replaced.
Replaced by: 997 Turbo. Didn't like.
Replaced by RS6. I like(d).
Land Rover Defender. Not as nippy.
Back with C6 RS6
And again C7 RS6

The trouble is a 2000 RS4 is coming up 7 years old and by most is seen as an old car.derdle wrote:Your more likely to have a 10 year old car nicked because the security on them is so poor, and the old bill won't be so inclined to look for it either.

If you can't own a 7 year old car without being in fear, we have trouble.
I've owned newer cars than my S4 but I keep all of them in the best condition I can and care about them the same. The newer the car the more I try. The older the car, I think what good condition for the age and try just the same! Something many people don't and don't care about.
I fear for leaving it in a tightly spaced car park more than I do actual theft.
It's the incidental knocks and scrapes that are teh worry and that can happen anywhere any car.
My brother used to run a Caterham 7 in South London. Garaged at home of course but when visiting friends without drives could end up chained to a lamp post or street lamp at the road side. Now that you had to worry about!
