Beyond Stage 3 (460bhp)?

Post by njw123 » Mon Mar 12, 2007 12:39 pm

I'm currently have MTM-3 on my car (i.e. full Miltek and MTM chip). Its been dynoed at 460bhp, and feels very brisk.

I've had it for a year now, and had indended to move on by now, but there simply is nothing new I'd swap it for - I can't think of any new car that ticks the boxes I need (4wd, turbos, classy understated looks, room for 4 adults)

So I plan to keep it, and maybe do some more mods... but what?

I want more power but also more driveability (less lag/faster boost). Is this an impossible mix to achieve? Do all the 500bhp+ conversions ultimately trade low rev driveability for top end power?

And who here has gone beyond 460bhp? How was drivability/reliability?

I have an S4 motor and have managed 500 with slightly modded K04's, tubular manifolds + an FMIC - I would expect an RS4 motor to manage better than that.

I think a straight RS4 with Injectors, pump, FMIC kit should make near 500... anymore and you will have to get the engine out and change the manifolds & exhaust system... at which point you may as well go for K04/RS6 hybrid turbos (550ish) or straight RS6 turbos for 600+

:D Plenty to consider...

Any idea on drivability? Is it definate that any extra bhp are only going to be higher up and with more lag?

I want more power, but if the car becomes peaky then maybe its not worth it...

ZeroK66 - who did the work on your car - is there a good local (SW) firm you use?

I am just about to install KO4/RS6 Hybrids, FMIC(Front Mounted Intercooler), new injectors and fuel pump.

We are looking for 540+ bhp out of it, and hopefully still a nice drive.

Sounds good. Are you currently at stage III now?

Looking forward to hearing how it goes...

Forget what the stages are again!, but I have the full milltek, downpipes, no precats or cats and MRC custom map. Its running around 460bhp and 450 ftlb of torque.

I will definatly be letting people know what its like when finished.

MRC did the work for me. The tubular manifolds actually reduce lag... as they are straight K04's they should be no worse than a standard setup. That said I have had my compression lowered to 8.2:1 so I was expecting a big drop in low down power but the car drives very well - I am certain it has less lag than my MTM chipp'd S4 wtih standard turbos... so I am very happy with my setup.

Viper is exactly where you are... he is choosing not to install tubular manifolds due to budget constraints, but I would really recommend getting these!

I dont know of anyone locally in the SouthWest unfortunately. Are you local - if so we can gladly meet up and you can see how my car is and see if you consider it "laggy".

I'am currently in the process of updating my RS4. The car is beeing built in Bergen, Norway by Auto-sentrum AS. The project is directed by Hans Dahlbäck (Sweden).

I will post it for all to see when project is finished.
We started in january and it is hopefully finished in may sometime...
Result will be extraodinary. We will end up at about 630hp. I upgrade the cars power, driving performance, durability, exterior and interior. come to think of it, there's not much original left on the car. The car is ofcourse sponsored an will be upgraded for about twice as much as i paid for the car when i bought it original.

New gearbox and seats came in today.

You can see some pix in the link in my sig...
Some from when it was original and some from when we started the "full package" operation.

send a pm to dazp, his mate Steve has a black RS4 which was 700ish bhp when I saw it. He has spent an absolute fortune I believe flying someone over from MTM to get near 1000bhp with NOS.

The deeper your pockets, the faster you will go.
RS4 B5. Where it all started.
RS6+ Never to be replaced.
Replaced by: 997 Turbo. Didn't like.
Replaced by RS6. I like(d).
Land Rover Defender. Not as nippy.
Back with C6 RS6
And again C7 RS6

yes as bob says his car is going to be very special when it is finished, he already spent around 40k on it. he put it to 1 side so he could up the rs6 a bit. dont ask me what exactly he is having done cos at this point i dont know, but i will be posting up details of it when its done, also he intends to come to a few meets to show the car off a bit .
i do kno that a good set up of NOS adds a good improvement, and can be made so you can switch on and off, all computer controled none of this button on wheel ( fast n furious ) . all safe and wont harm the car !
