Insurance Dilemma
Help! Not sure what to do. Just got back from Doug at MRC to have my brakes upgraded to RS4. However, he discovered that my car had a remap. Now I bought the car thinking it was completely standard. Therefore, do I tell my insurance company that it has had the engine modded? I know I will have to mention the brakes, but if Doug did not tell me about the mod, I would never have known, nor would the insurers. Any advice would be useful. Thanks. Graham

RE: Insurance Dilemma
I would tell them, otherwise you might as well not have any insurance, and certainly not worth telling them about the brakes as the undeclared remap will void your insurance anyway!
RE: Insurance Dilemma
I was in the same position last year, and felt there was no option but to declare the remap - in the event of the modifiction being discovered it's more than likely your insurance company would take the line that you are guilty until proven innocent, and refuse to pay out.
Where did you buy the car?

I agree with the other guys, write to the insurance company, because you know about it now.
If you bought it from a motor trader, you may have a claim there.

RE: Insurance Dilemma
That is what I have been thinking. So for the past year I have been potentially driving around with no insurance. Scarey thought. I will give them a calll and see what the damage is. I bought it from EMG cars in Surrey. They sell mainly on Autotrader and seem toknow what they are doing, except in my case of course...

If they try to pull your pants down with additional premium, look elsewhere, could be cheaper!

Insurance co's are bu**ers at the best of times - so if they catch a sniff that you've told a slight porky they'll have you. Play it safe mate and declare it.

Speaking of insurance...I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations with regard to a modded (St3 MTM/458bhp) B5?
I've asked around for quotes on the stock version and with the upgrade (planning ahead so I dont have to switch insurers once I upgrade it)
The car will (for a reason I wont bother boring you with) be reg'd to the wife
So for 40 yr old 'housewife' I have had thus far:
770 (stock)
938 and 912 with the MTM 458bhp mod from Adrian Flux and Peart respectively
That ball park in anyones opinion? (I know areas vary and conditions but really, you will have shopped around for yours, so I'm really looking to see if there's one particular company that sticks out as a niche player/specialist for these cars, that's all)
Cheers
