Cat D???
RE: Cat D???
You'd kinda hope it was there for life to warn later potential owners.........

Not sure what a "D" stands for exactly, but as David says, hope it is on the car for life to let others know the history.
If you're buying it as a track car then i wouldn't worry about it too much, as long as it's structurally sound.

RE: Cat D???
Front end hit a deer apparently.I belive "D" is repairable but written off by insurance as too expensive to repair. It all seems ok just wary of the term "written off".
RE: Cat D???
To be fair, if you buy it for a track car i don't think the next owner would be using it to take the family out on a Sunday afternoon.
If you were to sell it i think the buyer would be also using it for a track car.
I the price is right and you think it's safe then buy it. Geat car for taking round the track! !

there are places that will check the alignment, varify receipts for parts and check any repairs are sound. once done they can get the cat D removed if it meets their criteria. it has to be a spot on repair though

Ouch, so you could be paying full price for a previously written off car.....shineydave wrote:there are places that will check the alignment, varify receipts for parts and check any repairs are sound. once done they can get the cat D removed if it meets their criteria. it has to be a spot on repair though

RE: Re: RE: Cat D???
indeed however it's all really a matter of the quality of repair, if it's been done properly, ie. all the damaged bits replaced and checked out independantly then in effect it is as good as an undamaged car. as stated previously it's a car that's beyond economical repair, not beyond "actual" repair.Ouch, so you could be paying full price for a previously written off car
mate of mine bought a corsa a few years ago from sandtofts in doncaster which is a salvage auction. it looked like it needed a bumper and wing so he had a bid on it. what he should have done was give it a quick going over first because it wasn't, as he thought, complete with tinted windows. the tinting was actually smoke damage because the interior had been set on fire.
to be fair it didn't take much to find a complete interior on ebay so once stripped out i replaced all the wiring looms and with the new interior and wing and bumper fitted it was taken to autoline (i think they were called) at morley who took it off the cat D.
in that instance it would have been too expensive for the insurance company to repair but for someone who wanted a cheap car it was ideal.
