faulty 6 disc changer

Post by s4seeker » Sun Feb 25, 2007 9:02 pm

Guys
looking for some advice.
I have a 2001 S3 with a six disc changer and when i select the changer it just says no disc - is this simply the changer at fault or could it be connections/plugs that are loose.
just before i buy a new box wanted to check - cheers

IIRC that changer uses a magazine. Do you have CDs inserted into the magazine? Has the magazine got stuck in place?

magazine works fine and had cds in it - power to unit as it shuffles through cds and will eject magazine no problem but head unit says no cd.

Mine used to do this... but it only did it sometimes. Turning off the ignition (remove keys) and put it back in would sometimes cure it. What really sorted it out though oddly was replacing my battery, seems when low on power the cd shuttle does not like to work well. I have seen others say this too, but if yours is totally dead and NEVER works, then this may not be the answer for you,.

Might be worth trying putting a laser cleaning CD in. If it's just a build-up of SH.. on the laser lens that might clear it. It if doesn't then likely the laser is dead.

They come up on ebay quite often. There's this one on there at the moment:

Usual caveat, I don't know the seller or if it's the right CD changer for your car, or even if it works.

Sometimes its the easy things...are the discs insertd the right way up in the magazine?

OK...I'm now going to hide and curl up into a little ball.
