Anyway guys, it's not really that important because I'm going with Abt

Since I wrote this I have spoken with Kim Collins at MTM Uk and I am now back in the melting pot

somewhat brave don't you think Dave?

as they are yet to do a few of the items you like, such as the exhaust

I would er towards MTM at this time as they have the most work done, but i guess the warranty thing is a must

Good luck with it

And are you up for the rolling road meet?

Spoke with James (sales director for Abt) yesterday. They have done two RS6's so far. including the MD's of Audi Uk.

They have yet to finish the exhaust, but he is going to ring me when it is ready. I feel much more comfortable with Abt than i do with MTM, esp after speaking with MikeC. He has the MTM chip and Milltek and his car is not performing as it should. It is putting out LESS torque than standard!! I have since found out that this is not the case.. the torque figures for the MTM chip are way over standard (690nm) Mike C has been happy with his chip, but still questions the value of the exhaust Dave. That was a mis-understanding on my behalf.. sorry if I have mislead anyone!

Abt have everything in place and are changing the Uk operation so that the chips no longer need to be shipped to Germany. Everything is going to be done in house. There is also going to be a big reduction in price.

I much prefer the quad exhaust to the standard oval. It also has better gas flow rates.. Although the oval looks big, it is just a pipe cover and the exhaust pipe behind it is quite a bit smaller.

They have been ever so helpful on the phone, even from the first time I e-mailed the MD of Abt Uk.. got a reply within half an hour. I also love the look of the German Abt RS6.. a stunning piece of work...

I'll keep you informed of how I get on

Good luck Dave

Just make sure they set it up on a rolling road - you need that piece of mind that it does exactly what it says on the tin

I think you need to be aware of marketting hype

I hear that Abt have in fact been approved by Audi and in fact VW for porducts. But htis is mainly for wheels and other aftermarket add ons, be aware this may not mean that they are approved for engine mods etc

just a point, not trying to put you off Dave, just enter a deal with your eyes open

Cheers

Oh yea.. totally hear what you are saying.. I am good friends with the sale manager at my local dealership.. we go out for beers etc, and I was discussing the warranty bit with him beacuse , at the time, I was going with MTM. He told me not to worry about warranty issues and that it's not down to Audi Uk , but the individual dealer.. they make the decisions on the ground.. Audi Uk just back them up and give support and legal advice.

So, between you and me, he said that I would have nothing to worry about.. he would sort any problems that I had.. obviously this works two ways.. If I'm going to replace the turbo's with bigger ones and they went bang then there is little he could do for me, but the basic structure of the car and engine should be strong enough to deal with a slight increase.

Re: MTM RS6 500 BHP.. correction of facts

Post by Dave » Wed Jan 22, 2003 6:04 pm

I have just had a good conversation with both Kim Collins of quattrosports and Mike C and I have unfortunatly mis-understood things.

Mike says that the MTM chip is fantastic and really does make a difference to the car.. and he reccommends that I have this done. The MTM chip adds a lot of torque to the car and helps to improve mid range accleration. His concern is with the exhuast system

It is also true that the 0 to 60 time is more difficult to get down, mainly due to the automatic gearbox. Had it been a manual he would have been dumping the clutch and getting more constant times. I think that it is true of increases in torque that you are adding to the mid -range power, rather than just 0-60 times. Feel free to correct me if I am wrong.

The exhaust has not improved the car (in Mike's opinion).. Mike and Kim (to his credit) say that it is a lot of money (£1000 for the exhaust) for little gain. I must say that I agree. It is the down pipes where the restrictions are so it is these that need working on, and apparantly that is an engine out job

Hope that helps
Dave
PS.. why are cars so complicated??

I assum Mike just had cats back, which as the RS4 only gives maybe 5bhp increase

It is not until you do the full downpipes and cats that you get a real noticeable increase
