Xenon lights

Post by MarkB » Fri Jan 26, 2007 11:57 am

Been looking at these for another car I own that doesn't have Xenon's

Anyone used this kit? What light colour should I go for? I was thinking the whitest 6000K or maybe the 8000K for a little bit more bling 8)

It also says on the ad that there is no import duty or VAT to pay, I have still to work that part out...

edit:- just worked out that VAT part (The package will be marked as Gift/Sample with a small value)

8000k would probably not be legal. 8000k is violet I think. The most light output at 35w is from ~4300K
(most OEM systems). 6000k is probably the highest you want to go (that's pretty blue I think).

I have a similiar flavour of these. I have 6000k and it has a blue tinge, in hindsight and if I did it again, I'd go for 5000k.

Looking at the ad the lower the k number the brighter the light. I'm confused!

4000K is near S4 standard dip beam xenon colour. My hid conversion to hi beam is 8000K, its very bright. When the dip bulbs go, I will opt for 10000.

I believe they are all legal.

The K bit is for Kelvin (as in the temperature scale) - it's the colour temperature of the light
and gives an indication of the dominant wavelength (colour). The K rating has absolutely NOTHING
to do with the light output. In fact, higher K rated bulbs result in less light output per watt. Most
OEM systems are at 4300K as this gives the most light output in the human visible spectrum.

6000k at 35W produces less light output than standard. 8000k would be even worse.

JonnyX hit the nail on the head - couldn't have put it better myself (but it would probably have been about 3 times as long...)
