New S3 review in this week's Autocar

"The best car Audi has ever made"

Pretty much all the reviews I've read so far have slated this car, yet Autocar, who are usually pretty anti-Audi sports cars, give this a glowing report. Very interesting.

I was surprised, and somewhat encouraged that not every journalist thinks its an overpriced uninteresting dog of a car.

A mate of mine runs a SEAT forum and he said that most of the new breed of motroing journalists are PURELY journalists, NOT driving experts so to treat the reviews with extreme caution as very often the reviews will reflect the level of corporate hospitality they receive on the day of the shoot.

I read it and they seem to be on a overall S3 love in, also praising the last one as the only decent drivers car Audi made at the time (actually EVO said the same too). Still refreshing to read such a good review - got to help with values on your cars etc

supposedly our dealer would offer upto £3k less on trade in for an Orange one. They wanted me to have a white one as they wanted to see what it would look like in the flesh, and although I was tempted I think white cars look dirty too quickly, and look shabby when older. The 'special edition colours' such as yellow, orange, white and even to some extent sprint blue on the new S3's will supposedly command less residual on the second hand market. Therefore I chose with my wallet in mind and not with my heart and chose dull old grey (but then it doesn't show dirt and I'm getting lazy with age).

White doesnt look shabby when older - i have a 18 year old white car that looks very fresh, albeit it has been garaged all its life

But your car was made when paint was 'proper paint'. New paints are $h1t if you could pardon the expression. My bro in laws work van is about 2 years old and even after a t-cut it looks dull. Another mate has a Mk1 Golf in white and to be fair for a daily driver it is good. The new 'water' (i think) based paints just don't seem so resiliant.
