My S3 arrived at the dealers!

Post by coxw » Fri Feb 09, 2007 9:29 am

Last night I got the call to say the S3 had arrived. It almost makes it worse knowing that I now have to sit for 3 weeks and wait to take ownership of it  .

Interestingly when I signed on the dotted line to order back in October 2006 I was told categorically that I wouldn't get the car until March as the dealers could only sell one a month, and they had pre-orders for Jan, Feb, then ours in March (car number 3).

When I went and signed the finance agreement yesterday I was told it was the first S3 customer order car to be processed through the dealers. So much for the other '2' orders????!! Probably made those up to convince me to sign for the car (to make me think I was on an ever building waiting list).

Didn't even get to see the car as its in their preparation depot being Auto Glym'd.

Roll on the first of March. :D

Hope you like it when you finally pick it up, i dont think i could wait that long if i knew the car was at the stealers!!

What spec have you gone for?

Just ordered one for the wife on Wednesday, being told that it should be arriving towards the end of May, hopefully it will arrive sooner.

Thats a pretty comprehensive spec, on your non dealer fit option you have the haldex uprated 4wd controller what is that?
I (or should i say the wife!!!) have gone for

Sprint blue with 2 tone leather
Privacy glass
Bose
cruise
flat bottom steering wheel
phone prep in centre arm rest
ext light pack which includes auto wipers etc
int light pack includes auto dimming
park sensors
tracker horizon

Will have to ask about the sunstrip, does it make a difference?

I think i will get a milltek exhaust fitted to it when they get round to releasing one!

What does the stage 1 remap give you?

I demo'd an A3 without the strip and stray sunlight was getting through the centre of the visors which was an annoyance. I didn't really want the strip but went with it for that reason

I have a Milltek full stainless system with 100 cell race catalysts on my Leon Cupra R. It's OK, but the manifold and the turbo are the big restrictions to extra power. Also it can be a bit droney on the motorways. I'm not sure I'd go for another as it was over £1100 which is a lot of spend for not much bhp. If youre going for a big turbo conversion then fair enough, but otherwise its a nice to have.

about 310bhp and about the same torque figure in lb/ft I would imagine. Have a look on http://www.mtm-online.de/en/ if you need more detail.

The Haldex controller just redistributes the power to the wheels so not all of it sits at the front end (some details here http://www.haldex-traction.com/default.htm).

I am bored of waiting now. :(

My bro's TT has been at the dealers or about 3 weeks now, he has been advised today he can collect 28 Feb and take home on trade plates, but can not drive until 1/3 :)

He is tempted, but I'm not sure about the insurance implications if it went missing ......

The sunstrip sounds a good idea, mine hasn't got one (2001 S3) and would have been nice....

That is one sweet spec, but I'd drop the Lifeshine. My bro had this on his last car and he said was pants - Meguiars/Swissoil is the way forward ;) Does that Lifeshine protect the seats? If so, then it might be a good idea!

I'm inclined to say the same, I've had one car with Supagard, one with Diamondbrite and now this one with AutoGlym. The previous 2 have been so-so, but the one think they have been great for is protecting the interior. Also I'm hoping I wont have to clean it so often and that it will add something to the resale over a standard one. At least there is a 10yr 'at home' warranty on the AutoGlym so I can have it reapplied if I feel its less than good.

What it is then, I thought it was just a layer of polish and they gave you a kit of AutoGlym stuff to maintain it...

Is it some sort of laquer?

Supposedly it is some kind of polymer that flattens out the imperfections in the paint and stops the dirt holding to the car.

I reality its probably £300 for a quick valet!

Two more days and it will be here. The wait is really starting to get to me now

I had no idea that you could do that!

Don't think I could trust myself to be honest! As we are a one car family at present it would be too hard for me.

Did your bro go for the 3.2 or the 2.0 TT?

The dealership (Halesowen Jnc 3 M5) seemed quite keen for customers to collect early to relieve some of the pressure on the 1st, it also meant he didn't need the day off work and we had longer to look around for paint blemishes etc.

For Phil to be insured, the sales man had to travel with him, so he just followed me back to his house avoiding the motorway. Plus, someone else from Audi followed us and took the salesman back

The car is insured through Audi till 1st, then Phil has his own insurance.

He's had the 3.2 quattro in black, plus BOSE's etc. Its awesome!

My wife is furious that I decided to go with the S3 and not the TT. She says the S3 is just not special enough for what we've paid. If there had been a TT with the S3 engine in it I would have gone for it, but the 2.0T felt underpowered in the TT and the 3.2V6 although sonourously beautiful just didn't have the turbo kick that I am used to (and the 3.2 is expensive to modify if you want extra power). I bet it looks stunning in black too.

Hope he enjoys it, its a stunning car and far more special to look at than the new S3.

cheers

Thats exactly how I feel, but I didn't want to cause of offense!

They are putting the S3 engine in at a later date with quattro (current 2.0T 2WD), it will be an awesome car when chipped to 310bhp like you are going to!

I think his 3.2 spec is a similar price to what you have paid!
