Head Gasket probs?

Post by afhgus » Tue Oct 10, 2006 5:59 pm

Hello again,

just wondered how many cars have had the head gasket replaced? I think I might need to as there is a small coolant leak and all other possibilities have been exhausted! Lol

Have you checked that coolant is not leaking from around the electric coolant recirculation pump - down in the depths behind the fan & radiator?
Mine had seized and was the cause of an intermittant small coolant leak that had me foxed for a while.

And that little bugger, under the inlet manifold, just by the steering pump...goes to the turbo...

Hi
well, its now time for the head to come off and sort this coolant leak out. i was advised it might be a good idea to get the valves/ stems etc worked on too but this has already been done at 80,000 miles, now 118,00 miles. Long term I would consider it but for now I don't think its worth spending the money as I'll probably sell the car within 18 months. Any other experiences with someone else?

I've double checked this and it appears the further valve stem work etc is not necesary as it had a new head set and bolts last time at 80,000! Timing belt being done too,

I have got a brand new RS2 water pump and timing belt tensioner. These should ideally be replaced if you are doing the timing belt. I think they come to about £140 together. I could let you have them for half that if you need them. PM me if you are interested

No worries, I will have to sort out what bits & bobs I have knocking around my garage still.
