Bluetooth Phone Prep

Post by itaggart » Fri Jan 12, 2007 2:00 pm

I am currently spec ing my car and have asked for GSM dash mounted prep. I have asked for the acual cradle not to be fitted to the dash (I think they look rather ugly) and as far as I know the cradle only charges the phone battery anway. This should give me the functionality of the bluetooth interface without an ugly cradle bolted to the dash.

The dealer is telling me that I can't do this and that I if I spec this item I must have the cradle mounted to the dash.

Does anyone have any experience of this as it seems b*****ks to me.

Like you I did not want the phone cradle stuck to the dash of my nice new RS4 Avant and so I did not specify bluetooth when I ordered the car. However I did actually want the bluetooth functionality to be integrated with the Sat-Nav/Radio and so I contacted CraigyB on this site and he fitted the necessary Audi components to integrate bluetooth functionality into the RNS-E system fitted to the car. His cost was very reasonable (braodly in line with the cost of specifying it as an option) and he did an excellent job in fitting it (took him about an hour). Perhaps the only downside is that he is located in Manchester and so this may mean a bit of a trip for you but I was happy to do this and make it part of running the car in.

If you need to know anything more just pm me.

craigyb can also provide you with the parts as a kit which you can install yourself if you, or a friend, are competent.

This sounds just what I need... Manchester is a bit too far for me. I better pm Craig.

Ok, my previous kits required some soldering skills, but I have new totally Plug n Play harnesses for people with DVD navigation systems. I will code the phone kit before i send it, but the car cluster and DVD navigation will have to be coded to get full functionality from the kit.
