BP102 ultimate

Thought Id try out the new BP102 fuel at the weekend, so stuck 40 notes worth in. At £2.42 a litre it didnt go far, bout 80 miles.

There was a marked increase in performance though, no vagcom figures unfortunatly, Id say the increase was similar to having a standard car, then gutting DP's and removing cats.

I was quoted around a 12% power increase so for me who might be anywhere between 330 and 350, this could end up 370-392 bhp , if their quote is accutate. As only 1/3rd of a tank went in, adaption may not be at optimum.

Id recommend trying it out if anyone with stage 2/2+ wants to see how the next stage of tune might feel. If you think K04's replacement is in the reigon of £4k, you could buy about 30 full tanks of 102 with that !!

I would punt 50 quid on some of this stuff if there was a bloody garage selling it anywhere even remotely near me!

You will only really see a gains if your car has quite high timing set to take advantage of it.

i have an mrc custom remap which (i believe) has an emphasis on timimg rather than boost - dr wimpkins obviously saw a marked increase in performance, and, as he also has an mrc custom re-map then i would expect to see gains too.

MRC remap would have the timing maxed out to suit your setup... sticking higher rated fuel - the map wont up its timing to take advantage of the new fuel unless MRC re-map it again. You will see a slight improvement especially on a hot day when you are likely to have your knock sensors kicking back timing slightly. I could be totally talking out my RS so maybe MRC can confirm this?

I think stick to one fuel, get your car running well on it and leave it alone.

Julian-I believe there's a BP doing 102 in milton Keynes. That's, what, 40 miles from you? Why not time yourself down there, fill up, then time yourself coming back! Highly scientific results or what

What you need is a switchable map like the US guys have. Then it would be WORTH trying!

Scientific enough for me Adam! Might just toddle along there and splurge a fifty on some - see what it's like... Doc W states 'a marked increase in performance' ... i like the sound of that

There was a discussion recently about whether some cars appear to run better on 95 RON, so , yes I think its worth experimenting with fuel. I bet there are many folk who stick octane boost in their cars .

Personally I dont really notice the difference between fuel brands/octanes, be it 97, 98, or 99. This 102 was the only stuff Ive used and really noticed the extra kick.

No point running it every week. but nice to treat oneself now and again !!

I'd like Doug or Mihnea to comment here, my understanding is that the ECU is capable of running timing optimised to the fuel (and other conditions), regardless of who mapped it?
