I can't say I have. The pipe size's are larger on an RS4 and in different positions

No i stand by the fact that the standard AWE intercooler won't fit (unless special pipework is used)

Not all the intercoolers you've posted are the same. The picture below shows the outlet on top of the cooler, not set back like the AWE coolers in the first picture you posted.

Lets face it, if coolers are being built for a job they can be made to fit however you like. But the AWE cooler off the shelf is for an S4, not an RS4

There are two different ones the evolution ICs which are the bigger ones in the picture and then the AWE. According to the owner of the picture above those are AWE side mounts. Since externally minus a couple little things the S4 and RS4 motor are over all setup the same (if that made sense lol)i dont see them fitting without to much of a hassle.

The picture above shows what appears to be a hybrid. The inlets are per an S4 and the outlet postion in for RS4 with a collar to make up the pipe size.

The AWE intercoolers are larger by volume than RS4 but this has been done by increasing the depth (not the best way). The RS4 boys here are looking to get a larger frontal area (the better way) because having RS4's they have more space in their bumpers.

I'll be interested to hear what size coolers fits when the first ones are complete...

OK, an update on the ATMR IC's. I dropped off the Sportech dimensions last night so he could order in the right sized cores. Looking at the sportech items, they had cast end caps, but the core had been brazed directly onto the end cap (as per the AWE units), which I'm told is not a good design, as solder can leak down the inside of the core where the join is and partially block it - if you look at the OEM RS4 items, you will see the difference!!!

Estimated increase in size is around 100% over std RS4 items (for the pair) and unlike the AWE units this is largely due to increase frontal area (good), not depth (bad).

My car will go in towards the end of Feb and I'll post back soon with an update.

Compared to the AWE smics

Not the best quality (sse my other post) and the dimensions are all wrong for the RS4 (or for any decent IC for that matter) - you need the largest possible frontal surface area, hence why FMICs produce such good results.

s4woody wrote:anybody got the exact diamensions of these sportec intercoolers..length,width,hieght depth etc etc..
Found that on the german forum:

Sportec:

Width: 265mm (17 air tubes, or whatever the section are called)
Height: 260mm
Depth: 63mm

RS4:

Width: 237mm (15 air tubes, or whatever the section are called)
Height: 182mm
Depth: 63mm

Hope that helps,
Dave

I know this is about SMICs but let me throw out autospeeds new FMIC. Barely any bumper modifications and comes with oil cooler, p/s cooler, and EFK.

I'm loving this thread, at long last options. Nice on guys.

Now we need to know how much pressure drop the suggested cores will cause from either suppliers.
This is extremely important as per discussions with Mihnea.
How much does the turbo need to blow 1.7 bar? to make 1.5 bar at the Inlet Manifold, that is the question?

The fmic is rated as very efficient regarding resistance.

I've just noticed the title for this topic is about lager SMIC's....must be the best use of lager I can think of.
(OK, yes I prefer real ale).

Didn't I read somewhere that too much cold air causes more lag, OK for racing and track days but not so good for normal driving in colder conditions...

Or am I just being blond???

You may have heard them talk about it on F1 coverage last year ... ?
