?What is it worth 2001 Y RS4 Black
?What is it worth 2001 Y RS4 Black
Hope you can provide an opinion as to what I should pay? Late 2001 Y reg 1 owner since new fash london car 37,000 miles! all belts done and new gearbox last year.
Black with full black leather scraped alloys as you would imagine. But is it really worth £28,000?
Any advice or help most appreciated.
Cheers,

I,m no expert but having recently put buying a pristine RS4 at the top of my agenda for the 4 Months it took me to pick the right one i can honestly say i,m pretty clued up on what i would want in a car and what i would be wanting to pay dont take this as gospel it is my honest opinion and others will be along shortly to offer advice opinions and welcome you to the site,
Firstly welcome, I found all i needed to know on here and spent countless hours scanning old posts and digesting info......
My opinion,
I wouldnt ever pay the asking price, if its late 01 then it should be a 51 and not a Y, a 1 ownwer car from london is not unusual and neither is the low mileage so i wouldnt have an issue with that, new belts that is sensible and a good thing to look for, the belts have been done early however it is sensible as its been done on timescale rather than miles.
I would want to know why its had a new gearbox ?
Has it had a new engine too? only a thought but gearboxes seldom go wrong at this lower mileage, i work in london and i am amazed at the state of cars down here, almost all the wheels on all the cars are kerbed to hell, and parking dings are very common,
If your genuinely wanting to buy a car and not fishing for how much you can get for the car you are wanting to sell then there are several on here that are a lot less than this one, one Noggy blue one with added GMBH goodies floating around somewhere, i contemplated selling mine and buying that but my hairs falling out with the stress of finding mine,
In your quest to find the right car for you well only you can make that decision the person selling you the car will try and influence your decision but there are too many good ones about to buy the first one you look at.
Whats it worth?
Shouldnt come in to it, whats it worth to you? i travelled for mine a long way and paid more money than one that was seventeen miles from my front door. I,m more than happy.
Hope this helps.

2001 Misano RS4
2001 Misano RS4
Welcome
Some good advice above especially on the what its worth.
As for the gearbox. It's not uncommon to have the gearbox replaced due to damaged gears. It is said the early RS4 gearboxes are weak in certain gears and a modified gear exists. I am not convinced (on the weak issue - that is). Its a high perfromance car, thus it will be driven hard by some and REALLY hard by others. I expect issues with the clutch and gearbox and there are only a handfull of people on here who have replaced a gearbox and a significant number of bods with seriously increased HP and Torque figures with no gearbox probs. In short don't worry too much about the gearbox. Some dealers were better at handling warranty issues and any queries with a component were met with little resistance as the Audi mechanical warranty on the whole is pretty good from a no quibble perspective - well at least in the first 4 years!
However it may also be indicative of how the ar has been driven - this should show up other compenents like the how tight the car feels general condition etc.
Good luck

My concern would be how the 37,000 miles has been done. Is it all stop/start motoring in the City with loads of short journeies where the engine hasn't really got up to temperature? Or has the owner taken the car out from London on a motorway or decent road to work...thus then engine may be fully warmed.
How do you feel when you approach the car and owner? Gut instincts are very often worth listening to.
Does the owner allow the car to warm properly before pushing the turbos and does he allow a wind down at the end of a journey?
Hope my 2p helps.
Good luck in your search and lastly..welcome to the forum.

Hi Gulfb welcome to the site, every single one of the answers above is spot on, i have a black 51 plate with 32000 on the clock never had a cambelt change because its not reached the miles yet but its having one next service due in a couple of weeks so thats spot on there. Mine hasnt had a gearbox but i have had a new clutch why?Who knows. Its easy to assume the worse but if we did that we wouldnt buy anything. If you go looking at a car and you have to start questioning your own self doubt it's probably better to leave it.The scraped alloys are not a massive problem as long as there is no other damage following on from a wheel wacking a kerb, 2001 Y reg 1 owner with 37000 miles yeah id say its worth it all day long but then im biased you wouldnt get mine for less than 30.000.

Thank you all for the warm welcome and the advice - very sound and particularly refreshing when compared to forums based on my other motoring interest (pre 73 911's).
Just to confirm that this is a serious request re a particular car not a punt for a price. Just started to look for an RS4 pref black/black etc etc. Have seen cars differ in price hugely between £20,000 and nearly £30,000 for 2000/2001 cars obviously condition and mileage comes into play as does colour. Willing to pay correct money for a correct car but as with most this is still a reasonable sum of money and I just dont want to give it away!!
Looking at the car on Saturday so will keep you posted.
Thank you.

Its just my opinion, and i would never pay over the odds for a car and i dont know any one who has money to burn ?
I could have bought an RS4 from a guy who was selling for £18k and would have took less but the 95k on the clock and not a shred of service history detered me, sure it was the right money but it wasn,t worth that to me,
I also looked at one at a main dealers in yellow, there isnt any thing wrong with the colour but the 30k did deter me, there was no way that this car was worth that money "to me" for some one else may be ?
i,ve had plenty of cars and never recovered the premium..........
In my search i ended up with a 1 owner car with complete and fastitideous history and it was a low mileage example on a 51 plate the owner knew what he had and had refused what a main dealer had offered him against a B7 RS4, having just been serviced and at the same time having the new cam belts, pulleys tensioners 4 new tyres two front discs and pads fitted, new rears in august made this worth it "to me" i knew that this car was as good as i was gonna be able to find so we agreed a price and struck up a friendship into the bargain,
I wont recover the premium on this car just as i have never recovered the premium on any other car i have bought and sold but i,m going to have some fun not running it into the ground !

Thanks for the advice. Never liked throwing money away and as much as these are great cars I cannot belive they are appreciating assets!
On hopefully a positive note and through word of mouth a guy getting rid of his company owned rs4 due to the extended congestion charge zone and Richmond council has now landed in my garage! Slightly older 2000 car X reg but complete and very full ash. Lovely spec inc sunroof tv etc etc. High miles 98K but only 16,500 (trade in price) thought I couldnt go wrong! Famous last words!!!!

So youv'e gone from a late 2001 with 37000 miles 1 owner for 28000 to a 2000 98000 miles for 16500 just shows how diverse the market is, hope it lives up to your expectations congrats.

A quick update. Just returned from Chamonix and boy what a great car just ate the miles, fantastic in the mountain even in the fresh snow with low profiles!!
Just to clarify matters and not to upset anyone but I was rather astounded at the price asked hence the origin of this thread. I am delighted with the car and apart from the clock (and slightly peppered front end) you really would not know that it has done three times the miles of the other one - the interior is unmarked everything works, its totally spec'd and came with almost new tires! As the car will be used every day covering between 20 and 30K a year it will probably work out better financially as a low mileage car would no longer be. There seems a further train of thought that propery serviced used cars are better than low short journey jobs.
But hey whatever the car is a joy to drive and I dont have too huge a chunk of money sitting on the road.
Will post a few picks shortly.

nice one Gulfb, my S4 Avant has done 120k and runs like a Swiss watch thanks to FASH and extra work, I'm sure an 80k miler would be due a lot of the work mine has already had.
My friend is running a 1 previous owner 100k RS4 which he has done 4k in and had no problems to report of and that was from London.
You did get a good deal a similar mileage cars are going for £18k and probabl aren't as good as yours.
