Redline in 4th

Post by Genocidalduck » Tue Jan 30, 2007 7:11 am

I don't know if it's just me. But i'm sure im getting an extra 10-15mph on the redline in 4th. Used to get about 120ish. Now im getting 130-135. Car has just done over 10k miles. Anyone noticed any speed increase?

Are you on used tyres? As they wear the rolling radius reduces because the rubber wears off so the wheels rotate faster at a given true speed - making the speedo indicate quicker.

Surely it doesn't make that much difference!?!?!!? Plus, that would be the same any gear, not just 4th......

Genocidalduck, are you getting more rpm's in 4th? Or is it the limiter, which I assume is the same whether it be zero miles or 10k....

Also, I hope these speeds are away from public roads (we have police on here don't you know ;) )

Actually no they are brand new tyres.

To just under the limiter. Limiter comes on just past the redline.

And yes was on a Runaway. :D

Maybe its revving easier and you are actually taking the rpm higher than the previous 120mph runway tests ;)

I contacted Audi and they said there is no need to change the oil so early in the engines life.If the oil level is topped up when needed is it not ok to wait until the first service for an oil change?

I thought the oil would be contaminated with tiny pieces of swarf from the engine bedding in. On motorbikes, the oil is changed at 600 miles, then normal change intervals from there on. I'm not sure if the 'running in' is a different consistency either.....

Genocidalduck ive just hit 10k on mine, i started to feel mine open more around 7-8k its quiet normal, i dont know if you feel the engine open up even more around the 5000rpm mark, its shows you that the engine is opening up well!! :D regarding the oil Audi say that you dont service these cars until 10k or varaible around 18k. Audi say the way that there engines are built that the initial service doesnt need to be done.

im about to book mine in for a service. i can feel a whole in my pocket getting bigger!!

Hugy, £100 for the oil and whatever the labour ... it is worth it especially if you read on here ... small price to pay for good engine performance on a £55k car ... unless you intend to let it go and not keep it.

At 35,000 miles, mines now very revvy, and really kicks in at 6k +

Its the same in every gear, but you notice it most in 4th
