Knackered Inlet Manifold

Anyone else suffered?

Just had mine replaced, something to do with dodgy flaps :D

Started car from reasonably cold, it misfired for a bit, so turned off and started again. Not so bad, but EPC light remained.

Diagnostics pulled up something to do with the inlet manifold.

They had to take one off the production line, so no stock which probably means it's not an isolated case....

One of the early launch vehicles in the USA had a similar problem.

Also noticed now that another little issue seems to have been sorted- when blipping the throttle, sometimes the revs used to flare more than you'd expect.

I do not want to hijack this issue but have a question for bjacks. I am old enough (60) to remember engines before electronic management systems and I would describe my problem as if the engine is slightly retarded. The "fault" shows in several ways:
double declutching on a down change requires a substantial stab of the throttle

the engine always "bogs" briefly as I engage the clutch in traffic unless I slightly rev the engine prior to droppng the clutch.

cold start and for 3-4 minutes the engine is very busy and revs at about 1000rpm.

Sudden lifting off after full throttle acceleration and a brief surge is felt.

Did yours have any of these traits and if so has the new manifold helped?

Hi Colin

Doesn't ring any bells I'm afraid.

The only things it's fixed is the tendancy to flare the revs slightly after a dab of the throttle. The car ran ok before the day it miss fired.

Cold running was an issue also, it liked kangarooing on slight throttle during the first couple of minutes of warm-up, it hasn't done it since the manifold was replaced, but only time will tell on that fault.

What I failed to ask was whether and software was upgraded during it's stay at the dealer, but I'm still awaiting a call back from the service manager.

thanks for the reply - the kangarooing comment when cold I note with interest so I would be interested in a comment in a few weeks time if you note that that that trait has been cleared. I intend to get the dealer to check the software soon so, as you suggest, it may that or a combination of both. Its still a blast to drive anyway.
