I would not recommend to flush yr engine at all...... you will wash off all the carbon deposits that have built up over its life.... (primarily is good)
leaving your car to sound like a diesel......
Plus taking all those crystalized deposits into yr bearing shells ...
just order a new engine same time you pay for yr oil flush... :lol:

I dont do any mods/services on my stuff, because I have no tools (apart from Ikea screwdriver set ;) ) /time or skill .....

The only way I would flush an engine is to do 2 oil changes close together. Diluting the dirty oil and crud into the new clean oil.

Years ago running an old mini I noticed that just running good oil in an oil engine cleaned all the unwanted black crap out of the engine itself. which is probably where the mith came from to not run old engines on nice fully synth oil. The old engine is holding together because of the carbon buildups.

If any of our engines are in this sort of state then I'd be expecting a large bill before long...

I was going to get my local garage to change my fuel filter (I have one sitting around) but having read the write-up on AudiWorld I am now not sure. It looks a bit tricky for the totally uninitiated.

I got MRC to change my fuel filter - IIRC Doug said it is a bit of a PITA ... but definitely a worthwhile thing to do ...

because of the extortionate prices they charge, unfortunately there's not many places open the hours they do so i suppose you can justify some of it because of the service. still hurts though to buy a bulb for £2.00 knowing full well i can buy a box of 10 for the same price from the local car spot.

to be honest i usually buy from my local German and swedish who know me pretty well so i don't get bad prices, it's those occasions when you just get the urge to try something and the only place open is Halfords. they don't keep a bad stock in but it's the knowledge i'm getting the zip in my gimp suit opened severely that knarks me. then again it's the same when i need a bottle of coke for my brandy and the corner shop wants twice what it costs from the asda. supply and demand rules so i'll just have to grin and bear it
