Is it worth buying a VAG-COM?

Post by RSVI » Mon Jan 08, 2007 7:07 pm

After getting my alarm setting done last week while the service was done I'm wondering if i should get myself a VAG-COM.

What are the benefits on owning one?

Do i need a degree to use one?

I guess there's some kind of user manual?

Should i just find a local RS246 member that knows what they're doing and share the costs ?(MarkB   )

If i did get one, is it really only used for fault finding or is it worth while.

As if i haven't got enough to spend on other things :D

Yep, I have one. ;) I go to the Windsor meets and can take it if need be. peterb is also at this meet and never comes without his.

I bought mine because I want to be able to do logging and tweeking which can take a lot of time. As far as quick fault scans and setup changes you may be better just getting someone else to do it for you.

I would also like to say me using my VAG-COM on anothers car is all done at the owners risk, not mine :biggrin2:

Was my intention to make the one on the 27th (ish) Dec but i was up in Northampton seeing a friend.

Good to meet a few other Audi owners, fingers crossed I'll make the next.

Till then :D

i've had mine since xmas and so far i've reset an airbag fault, traced an ABS fault, fixed the TV in my wifes Passat, reprogrammed the central locking on 4 cars and found a leaking TBB that would have cost a fortune if the turbos had gone so yes, well worth the investment. Just make sure you get a genuine Ross-Tech one. more expensive but more functionality and you're supporting the people who design the software which in turn leads to new functions being introduced all the time.
