Surely if your having to pull the engine out (MarkB excepted) the the bulk of cost is the labour not the turbos so it makes less sense to put K03 hybrids rather than the conventional K04 upgrade....

Erm, I think that's kind of the point of the thread. If K03 hybrids are cheaper
AND can be fitted without the engine pull (hence lower labour costs) then
that is enough for some people. The deliberation is over whether it's really
possible to do this without pulling the engine and whether they would
charge you any less.

Now, Okkim reckons 4 hours for a pull on jack stands. The consensus on
AW is ~4 hours if you have done it a few times before. We generally get
charged a flat 'book' time of ~20 hours depending on where you go. See
what I mean about tuners not necessarily being in a rush to change the
status quo?. I don't know about others but I feel a little bit reluctant to hand
over money for labour which wasn't done. It would be less misleading I
think to present this a price for doing the job regardless of how long it takes. I think at least AMD do this (but lets not start on what they charge
;-))

Yes, it was Keyser. Unfortunately all the photos in his posts came from www.streetracing.pl so they aren't much help now. But if you go to that site you'll find an English language forum so someone could post a request for the photos/instructions there.

Seconded! I just can't bring myself to pay a grand for this, then with the additional cost of the parts and extra malarkey on top it comes to £3K - prohibitive for me I'm afraid. If it could be done for half that then i'd be happy with 03 hybrids and say 360-370bhp ...

So ...

K03 Hybrids £800 approx ($695 each + postage)
Remap £ 500 (custom remap from MRC)
Which leaves £200 to fit the turbos.....

Pretty tight budget....would be great if it's possible.

Well Jeff, having discussed this with Doug/MRC on several occasions previously, I've been told that if you've already had a custom re-map from them then a re-visit/tweak of the original re-map, especially when factored in with the turbo-swap work, isn't charged at full price (it's charged as a percentage of the original £500 price tag) ...

And the pair of K03 hybrids coming in at £800 makes it a very attractive proposal to me ... if the labour could be limited to around 10hrs (~£550 at MRC) then I guess you'd be pretty close to the £1600 mark ...

I will - but to be honest I really don't hold out much hope of Doug agreeing to the labour limit of 10hrs! And that's fair enough; he has a business to run and if the book price for a turbo swap is 20hrs labour then I can't see him moving from that ...

Referring to MarkB's earlier post about him DIY'ing it I may ask him if he wants to do mine ... ! (with me as an assistant of course and cash in his hand) - how's about it Mark ???

What do you guys reckon to contacting various specialists to find out if they can / would be interested in coming up with a price for this conversion, I'm not in the market right know - touch wood - however we may get a positive reaction from someone...?

As discussed, if mine go pop now way will I be going for a lengthy and costly RS4 style conversion and the thought of replacing them with standard KO3's seems a bit boring.

Good idea Paul - i'm with you on not wanting the £3K K04 conversion (and the concommitant fueling upgrade etc) - if DavidT is correct in his statement about the stock injectors/fuel pump being good for up to 360/370bhp, and factoring in the reply from Jacob about the K03 hybrids giving an extra 15-20bhp alone then this would certainly fit in well with my current set-up - I figure I'm around 340bhp at the moment - with K03 hybrids I should still be within operating parameters for my stock fuel system ... now if we could get a fixed 10hr labour quote then I'm totally sold !!!
