The maps are a newer version M1N061018_EN0603.
Dave,
how do you get the new disks, do we need to request them from Audi ?
cheers

They didn't come directly from Audi ...

The "official" way is to contact your dealer to arrange for the TMC upgrade to be done under the terms of the memo sent to all dealers last month (i.e. as a warranty repair).

Is it easy to do, I got my Rs4 from Basingstoke ( I live in Newcastle ) and don't really want to drive all the way down there for a 10 mins job if i can do it myself. I would rather ask them to send me the disks and I will do it...unless there is other stuff they will be doing at the same time ??

cheers
Guy

It's as easy as any other SW upgrade to the RNS-E - insert the new disc and wait!

Following advice from an Audi Tech I had the engine running to keep the supply voltage to the RNS-E OK, inserted the Western Europe DVD (DVD 1), the first phase of the SW upgrade started automatically (after a few seconds of the screen showing "Insert Navigation disc"), the RNS-E re-started automatically and the second phase of the SW upgrade started automatically, then the RNS-E switched off so I waited a few seconds and turned it back on to find it running SW 0550 and the TMC data gradually appearing in the INFO screen. I had to turn TP back on because it had turned that off, but every other setup was as I had it.

One other person who has done the upgrade has reported (on www.navplus.us) that his RNS-E asked for the 4 digit PIN code, but mine didn't.

IMHO it's so easy there's no need for it to be a dealer job - anyway it's NOT a dealer job in any other country in Europe and they will be getting UK TMC functionality the same as us!!!

BTW Audi didn't take the opportunity to fix another couple of bugs in the RNS-E that DID get fixed in the US 2007 RNS-E DVD (when in MIX mode pressing FF exits mix, and better use of the top 2 lines of the DIS to show more of the song title - both fixed with US SW 0150 on the US 2007 DVD but both unchanged with EU SW 0550 on the EU 2007 DVDs).

This is the response I am receiving from my dealer?

Mark,

I have been advised that the vehicle requires an upgrade to allow it to
utilise the TMC facility.

There is also an upgrade disc required at a cost of £200.

I have got this info from Barry Evans our parts Team Leader.

If there are any further querries please do not hesitate to call.

Regards

John.

From reading this post this reply is not correct?

That reply is completely wrong - it is a FREE warranty repair. Ask the dealer to re-read the memo they got from Audi.

All they have to do is order the DVD as a warranty item, insert it in the RNS-E and sit back and watch it do the update.

Here's what Tom Peterkin said to me earlier today:
1/ We have notified the Audi network of the process to follow regarding the retro fit TMC DVD.

2/ We will be contacting all customers, week commencing 15/1, on our data base that have vehicles fitted with RNS-E sat.nav, advising them of the actions required. N.B. RS6 plus is RNS-E.

3/ The DVD is FOC and we will be asking customers to handover their existing discs as these will no longer operate once the retro DVD is installed. (I suspect that the discs on eBay are not the TMC retro fit ones.)

If you have not received a letter from us by the end of January Dave, may I suggest that you contact your local Audi centre requesting a TMC DVD.

Regards
Tom Peterkin

Note the RS6 Plus IS mentioned as being included, and you will have to handover your existing DVD.

P.S. I don't have the heart to tell Tom that the DVDs on eBay ARE TMC retrofit ones!

As you are probably aware RS246 has a close relationship with Audi. Earlier today I spoke with Tom, and he advised the following:

- The Audi dealer network was advised via Audi Desktop on the 18th Dec.
- Letters will be sent to Audi owners with RNS-E systems on the 15th Jan.
- If you have RNS-E and have not received a letter by the end of Jan, then you should go to your local Audi dealer and quote part number 8PO 060884 M.
- It is likely that you will be expected to hand over your existing Sat Nav DVD.

Most of all I would like to urge people not to contact Tom directly. There should be sufficient information here for your to progress the issue with a reputable Audi dealership.

PhilT- Today, I was advised that the disc is FOC but there will be labour charge of one hour (£70ish) for the 'upgrade'. and having done this type of 'upgrade' many times before myself, is this labour charge correct for what is basically; insert the DVD, enjoy a brew until update finished?

Interesting that I received my letter on 23/12 and it clearly says; "We are pleased to be able to offer you this upgrade free of charge including all software and labour costs at participating Audi Centres"

Any dealers asking for labour charges from customers are clearly taking the p**s.

Tell the dealer to give you the disc and you'll do the upgrade yourself!

They are taking the p155... charging for what Audi UK have described as warranty work is simply not acceptable.

The memo from Audi UK says "Any labour costs incurred in the fitment of the disc cannot be recovered and will need to paid for by the Centre." - note it's doesn't say "be charged to the customer".
