S4 test drive/availability

Post by Gareth » Wed May 21, 2003 2:42 pm

Hi

Been lurking here (mostly live on www.BM3W.co.uk) for a while so thought I'd better sign up. Now have 4 mates who have RS4's so need to assess the Audi options as well the BMW ones....

After a number of BMW's (M3's/MINI Cooper S/M5 etc) I thought I'd have a look at the new S4. Always liked the look of the 'old shape' RS4 but personally prefer the purer driving pleasure of my previous E46 M3 to be honest.

However I am going to have a test drive of the new V8 S4 to see how it compares to getting another M3, or a M5. Like Chins I'm about as decisive about my cars as my GF is about us buying a new house

Just thought I'd ask (in case I like it!) what kind of delivery times people are being quoted at the moment. Spoke to my local dealer and he said a factory order would be for August delivery, so September registration really.

Is that typical for the new car?

Cheers.

p.s. I'll count to 3 and wait for Thorney to start ripping it out of me now I'm looking at another Audi

I've just booked myself a test drive..

I was told I could get one in 10 weeks, which I thought was very impressive.

I like the idea of the V8.. and im sure it can be played with to up the power a little bit.

I'm looking forward to taking it out next weekend now

Hi Matt

I'm taking one out this week as well. Already seen the demo car I'm having for the day and am looking forward to seeing it compares to the M3/M5...

I'm encouraged by the availability of 8-10 weeks for a factory order as well as the allocation numbers. Audi UK (I'm told) are bringing in 550 this year and no more than 1,000 in '04.

If you compare that to what BMW brought in for the E46 M3 over the first 18-20 months I think it's at least half. BMW GB brought in around 3,200-3,600 units over the same period and now look at the market

Mind you if I don't rate the S4 I'd still buy another M3 but just get a great deal of course

I am expecting to find the S4 sits somewhere between the M3 and the M5, it might not be as quick in a straight line as the M, but that isn't why we really buy these cars. The AWD and the V8 are going to be very impressive, and I find myself hoping it will be wet for my test drive, something I wouldn't do in the M3!

I have to decide what I want for the summer.. do I want an M3, or do I want something else.. and to be honest, even though the S4 is nothing to look at, I am quite excited by it.. and I've not been excited about taking a car out for a long time.

Youre both tarts

I see your looking to save on the cost of Metalic paint Gareth - Black or Red

Question is what discount have you got ?? I'm stuck at 5.8%.

'02 M5 v '02/'03 M3 SMG cab v '03 S4 V8 avant

Have to agree that I'm also really looking forward to trying the S4 to see how good it is compared to the BMW options....

Err, if you wouldn't mind I'd like to know too.
The dealers in Guildford and in Basingstoke weren't particularly interested in offering a discount at all...

Cheers,
John.

Suspect this discount is linked to an import, not UK dealer car.

Might also be a long wait too...

Prepared to be wrong of course though Chins...

You save more like 25% on an import, not a measly 6%!

No way can you save 25% with the current Euro/pound exchange rate of 1.39. The pound has dropped about 16% since those days!!!!
