Chance to be a motoring journo for a day

Post by TWH » Thu Nov 30, 2006 3:50 pm

Just had a call from Car Online to say I'm one of the finalists in their competition to roadtest the new Toyota Auris in January :)

Gotta go to Toyota in Surrey next week for the day, test the outgoing Corolla and do a small write up. Then the winner gets to go to the launch in Barcelona mid January!

Just thought I'd share that with you as it's the closest I've yet come to winning a competition, and it's always been a dream to be a motoring journalist, even if only for a day :)

I think you'll report will have to kiss some serious ass to win, I'm sure you can do it ;) Avoid all comparisons to RS4's at all costs ...... comment how good the brakes are (avoid AP comparisons) ....... maybe mention the fuel economy and how nice it is to park ..........

Yup, cheap to run, non-jarring ride, and licence friendly

I'm hoping that the write ups will be judged by Car rather than Toyota, otherwise as you say it'll be an ass kissing exercise!! I'm hoping they will at least let us loose in the T-Sport next Thursday, at least it's got a vague semblance of power!!!

Gotcha, congratulation mate and good luck with it.

Dropping the Corolla name, that's big news. I'm 97ish and I learned to drive in one of those :)

:biggrin3:

It's a huge change getting rid of the Corolla name, looks like a decent car though, just hoping I get through to try it!

Ok, they finally put the write ups on the web.

You can find the articles Here and if you think I merit a vote feel free to help me get to Barcelona  I think you have to register to vote but it's free and easy.

Hi TWH,

All keyed up to vote for a man with exceptional taste in motor cars (the Avus RS4 not the ricer), clicked on the link but fell at the first hurdle. I don't know your name. Or am I being thick?

BTW, I also had similar luck in October, got invited on an all expenses paid by BMW trip to Barca for the press launch on the new Mini Cooper S. Small charter jet from Farnborough airport, stayed the weekend at The Florida on Mount Tibidabo overlooking the city, eat at the 3 Michelin Star Evo Restaurant, didn't have to put my hand in my pocket once. The budget must have been huge. I have absolutely nothing to do with journalism, I went along as the guest of a friend who is the editor of a graphic design magazine.

Best of luck TWH, if you get to go, you'll have an awesome time.

Sorry, my name is Rob Pierce (should have thought that would help :bash: :biggrin2: )

The trip courtesy of BMW sounds awesome, I'm just hoping I get to go!

Cheers Rob, you just got my vote.

Looks like it's between you (37%) and Ben Pulman (52%), but as there have only been 156 votes, it wouldn't take much to turn that around.

Good luck.
Mike

Yeah, it's fairly close at the moment. Mind you the editors get the final call anywho so it may all be immaterial! Cheers for the support
