Insuring a heavily modded car:
Insuring a heavily modded car:
Hi Guys,
Those with modded cars only please respond to this:
As you know I have had the MRC500 treatment. As things stand wtih my exhaust I would expect around the 450ish mark for now. Looking for an insurer at this figure taking into account the brakes, wheels, turbos, chip, exhaust etc etc - all at an estimated £20k value.
24 y/o 6yrs NCB no convictions.
So far I have tried:
Brenacre
Greenlight
Adrian Flux
Admiral
Universal Insurance
Noel Dazely
Premium Choice
Hyperformance
Policy Shop
Most standard insurers like Elephant and admiral etc wont cover the increase in BHP.
Any other suggestions while I hunt around like mad?
Cheers,

Re: Insuring a heavily modded car:
And your results so far and your premium as was?
I expect your preium was about £550-600 previously.
What sort of quotes have you been getting?
www.hertsinsurance.com
Unless you are getting silly quotes, I would start choosing between the ones you have based on service and level of cover rather than price though. For a car like that, a company that includes some track use or are open to you paying for track use might be advisable.

Well not from my own experieince, hence I wonder about your quote above, but a friend that had a heavily modified car found HIC the best. He had so many interior, body and engine modifications, he pretty much was insuring a custom car and had no restriction in his policy as agreed if he wanted to modify further as long as the engine didn't acutally change - as in a different one wasn't fitted.ZeroK66 wrote:Hi Guys,

RE: Re: Insuring a heavily modded car:
so, what have you been quoted so far then?
Nogaro Blue S4 Avant thats now sold 3/3/07
RE: Re: Insuring a heavily modded car:
Quotes have been hard to come by and quite varied. Seems silly that some wont quote me till March when I am 25! Anyway, ended up going with greenlight who have quoted me 1.2k with national breakdown cover + protected NCB fully comp. That is cheaper than I was paying while tied in with tesco for the car with just a chip and exhaust.

Zero, a bit of a shot in the dark here - but, try calling Express Insurance. I'm not sure if they do or don't insure cars (i insured my bike with them). If they do, they are quite flexible on beating quotes AND they'll match all the perks of other insurers - I got free road side cover and was allowed to ride any other bike.
01 RS4, Milltek, Dahlback Racing rears, RS6 fronts and a few bits to be added.

RE: Re: Insuring a heavily modded car:
I think £1200 is extremely reasonable for you and the vehicle. Cover sounds good, but is it agreed value?

I've been with Greenlight for 3 years now ... great to deal with, usually costs me nothing when I do more upgrades, just let them know ...
Think I was down to 750 this year ... cheapest insurance I have EVER had, and on my car! wah hay!
