Sorry I have the same problem. My local stealer is at a loss. I even have a new head unit. Not just for that reason.

I posted on the yahoo forum for the TV wiz but didn't get any response. I was going to try another dealer. I'm sure its some hidden function, as like you, a mute symbol appears then goes off.

Check your tv std settings, mine was like that when i bought it, with the tv on select screen options and check that it is set for england/ireland---there are quite a few options ie north america, europe, secam etc. I found i could still recieve uk pictures using different settings but got no sound.

Funny you should mention that flashyg, my radio and tv reception went bad a few weeks ago after driving in heavy rain on M25. I noticed some slight dampness where the TV receiver, CD changer and amp are located behind the rear trim panel.

Car went along on Thursday to my local mechanic that I use for bits and bobs like this. he had a good look and couldn't see where water was coming in, but could see that some of the terminals on the aerial distribution box had deposits on, so clearly had been subjected to water in the past. It's going back in this week for further investigations.

Thanks for that bud.
Basically I notice this mostly wen I turn on the rear window demister.
The radio immediately sounds hissy . Serious interference as a result of rear demister.
Any quick fixes appreciated.

Even a how to remove the boot lining trim and get to the tailgate electrics and the side lining to get to the aerials in both windows to check every thing over.

Etka Any one Please.
Thanks

Just to update the orginal theme of the thread. My sound came back on when I fitted the Phatbox. Not sure if I upset a connection but its worked ever since. So a new head unit wasn't required! Interestingly the stealers never did get to the bottom of it despite fiddling.

The dodgy radio receiption is not uncommon and I believe a realitively cheap fix at the stealers. Brooner had this issue. I think it was the tuner.

As for removing the tail gate interior panel. There is only one screw by the grab handle. Then an array of metal 'pop' type clips 8 total. 4 along the bottom one right at the lower corner so carefully slide a medium sized flat screwdriver in at one of the lower corners while peering in with a light until you find the exact location of the clips and prize from the clip location so that you don't break the clip from interior panel. The panel also hooks onto the black plastic trim that comes down from high level brake light. Just go easy with all this plastic until you see how it all locks in.

I'd post a pic of the inside of the panel but its too big memory wise to upload and I can't get any picture sofware to decrease its size that will run with windows ME. :( Send me an PM with your email address and I'll post pics.

As for the rear quarter panels. They use an identical clip all the way around panel.

Unscrew the pin/s (if removing both rea panels) that locks the split seat. If memory serves me right I needed a box spanner to unscrew that. It was akward but I can't remember why.

Remove the seat trim either side of the main rear split seats. This simply prises off.

I think I had to remove the cargo net hooks. But I might have done that by mistake?

Pull rear door seal off from rear panel

Ease back the panel until you spot the location of the clips. Take care not to brake these out of the panel. A new panel is £120 per side and Avant rear trims are like hens teeth from scrapies. At least they were 3 1/2 years ago.

What did you have to replace? The TV diversity receiver?
