Would sell if I could think of a different sporty saloon with the same or better performance, that's newer and that I could afford - £18K probably my max spend. Must be German. Only non saloon comprimise would be a Porsche. Not a Boxster, so out of play on moneey straight away.

Was thinking of a C32 AMG before I got the S4 but it would have been my 3rd MB in the trot and not happy with MB and their rust situation and would have been my max spend and then a bit.

B5 RS4 not on my list. Not different enough to warrant small step forward for all the extra money.

RS6 too big and too expensive.

Nothing in BMW line up that I like. Old shape M5 took my fancy but too big. E46 M3 only 2 door. New 335i too new £££££.

Will see what happens between now and the B7 RS4s becoming affordable and hope I can live without forced induction. Might take a drive in a B7 S4 too first just to see.

Car currently spends most of it's time locked in my garage. If my usage requirement goes up, that's when I am more likely to change. Something about it, not sure I would want for a daily driver - fear of turbo problems mostly.

I was thinking of changing mine in about a year for something a little newer but theres not much out there with the spec of the s4, i was thinking maybe a b6 s4. How do these compare with the b5 ie brakes, gearshift, and being N/A.

But saying that just getting mine driving better now with DTS, ARBs, suspention and will get a shortshifter in the new year and its feeling like a much better car to drive, also keep thinking of gutting pre cats and remap but cannot afford to be putting new turbos on if they let go.

I've just got my S4 (Since end of October),and as much as I love the car it's not exactly what I want.

It was a case of coming out of a company car and into a new job so I had to get one quick. At the time there were no noggy blue S4's in my price bracket (mines silver).

That said, I don't think the Noggy blue would have felt any better really. I love the acceleration, the weight of the clutch, the build quality etc but surprised as I am to say this - my remapped S4 doesn't feel as quick as it did the first few times I drove it.

Think it's just a case of I got used to it, mines defo healthy (300+ hp, 480nm, 258g/s MAF etc etc) - the question is, do I want to spend thousands on sorting this one out (big brakes, milltek, k04's - about 7 grands worth?) or do I put what I would spend on mods into a p/x deal against an RS4 (B5).

At the minute I'll do an RS4 brake upgrade (cheaper than the other options - got the calipers for less than a ton :-) and maybe put APR Bi-Pipe or full Samco hose set on and just get it sorted so it's better than stock.

I don't fancy the B6 S4 (No turbos) or the B7 (can't afford anyway). Realistically it's an RS4 for me, they're down to 16.5K for the cheapest ones versus 23K for the RS6 which is really want I want.

So, to sum up, keep the S4 whilst I cobble up enough for an RS4 (be about 12-13K maybe this time next year?) and then run that for a year or two until the RS6 is under 20K.
Wanted: C5 RS6 Avant

mines a 99 pre facelift with 65k that cost me 12,000 nearly two years ago, then i got the modding bug. short shifter, rs4 i/cs, hybid turbos, 600cc injectors,rs4 clutch +flywheel, d/vs, full rs4 miltek, compression lowering head gasket, d.t.s., apr bipipe, rs6/4 brakes, rs4 oil cooler & fuel pump and 18" oz wheels all of which cost me approx another 12 large and gives me approx 470bhp, which i thought would do me but unfortunatly for me i must be ill coz i have just bought a full rs4 inlet kit, heads and gearbox. and of course while the engine is out i'll have to put in forged con- rods, tubular manifolds, and fmic so kiss goodbye to another 10 large and hopefully that will make me happy or else i will get commited to the local asylum so yes mines a keeper for the forseeable future

Had mine two years now, and still loving it. Milltek catback, MRC custom map, B6 S4 18" wheels and H+R Arb's, plus the usual 710n and after run mod etc. Planning to keep it for a long time, mainly due to the stealth factor (although I love the more aggressive RS4 and RS6).

I will probably continue to tweak it over the years, i.e DTS, short shift, gut the precats, coilovers, brakes etc, and I still keep my turbo contingency fund in place just in case.
Ultimately, once the car is worth next to nothing, it will stay in my garage and come out at the weekends for the track. (I won't take it to the track at present as it's too cherished)

I have always changed my cars about every 12 months, but even though the B5 is beginning to look a little dated, where else can you get this kinda performance for your cash. Furthermore, rather than lose lot's of money on constantly changing cars, I'll spend the money on mods.

Fortunately I keep the mileage on the S4 down by running a cheaper runaround (which I will park anywhere).

As you say David, we have a real mixture of owners on here, and I guess I fall into the last two of your categories...

I think I also fall into the category, as many others do, of "rapidly changing Audi S/RS owner profile syndrome". What I mean by this is that our intentions and aspirations tend to change over the period of ownership, and often quite quickly.

In my case, when I acquired my S4 just over 2 years ago, I thought that my ownership would last for possibly 2 years before I either got "bored" or felt it was time to move on. As I had found a highly (factory) spec'd stock car, I had no real intentions of doing much in the way of modifying, other than perhaps a remap.

Well, those of you who know me (and my car) will know that this changed after about 9 months of ownership when I bumped into MRC back in the days when they were touring the country with their box of tricks...(now where's Dazzer - he's to blame for this! :bash: ). Since the initial remap last June, it's been 18" wheels (2 sets), 710Ns, Samco hoses, RS4 exhaust and gutted downpipes, AWE DTS, RS4 bumper, short-shifter, AWE ICs, APR bi-pipe, snub mount, RS4 B7 front brakes, a few cosmetics, and AWE boost gauge to go on soon...

During this last year, I've been backwards and forwards between going the K04 route or moving up to a proper RS4 (B5 of course) - I always thought that would be my next step.

However, you will have no noticed my more recent flirtation with the RS6...
So now I've got that bug, my head's just in a complete spin...I want it NOW, but I don't have the funds right now and anyway I feel I should get at least another year's use of the S4 to justify all the money I've spent on her...and now I'm stressing about not being able to fit in a fully modded S4 or an RS4 before the RS6...decisions, decisions!

Now, as a general rule, I don't like (or drive) automatics or estate cars, but IMHO the Audi avants and tiptronics from the RS stable are in a completely different league... :kissmyrings: so an RS6 is now on my radar...

The only question is when and how (saloon or avant). In an ideal world, I'd keep the S4 saloon and go for an RS6 avant...and I think we all know what would happen to the S4...

Rather a long answer to a simple question, but I'm chilling out after last night's Christmas party... :drink: :beerchug: but the short answer is "keep it as long as possible, with the ultimate goal of an RS6, and possibly an RS4 on the way"...

So what are your intentions David?

Im keeping mine. It had 124K on the clock, and had her for a year now. But theres nothign out there that will give me this level of performancefor thi sprice and still be satisfying to drive. Im running 350 HP at the moment. Im looking to put a new engine in, and do the full works, renew the suspension, arms, all bushes tp make her driv as new, and then do a full upgrade, with tubular manifolds, forged rods, mtm or equivalent clutch, hyprid turbos, full inlet side, FMIC, putting a new set of S4 heads on to keep the low down torque. All new upgraded bits to give me a very reliable S4 as good as new and around 500 brake. Having the 500 HP there ill be great as is the forged rods for incleased reliabilty, and also gives the option of changing to RS4 heads when I get bored and want another 100 or so horses.

In all fairness it might cost a fair bit, maybe best part of £20K with brakes and suspension etv, but it will be a brand new daily driver with phenominal power, and faster then anything you can buy from audi now, including the R8, the RS6 the RS4, and also to my likeing its just absolutely stealth. Cannot go wrong in my eyes. And It will cost half the money of a brand new RS4.
Im luck I had all the extras such as Sat nav and recaros, heated and electric, sunroof etc. Makes it a bit easier to want to do the whole upgrade.

Leon I went for another ride in whiskys car yesterday, and I can say, you will truly be happy with what youre going to get from MRC once your car is ready. Youll be running more power than Whisky (for now), and I say say, what he's got is 100% enough. The car is so rapid. Youll be grinning from ear to ear for a long time.

Funny that russ... I have noticed there have been a lot of S & RS owners that end up with a Porsche. That said though the S4 has become reasonably affordable... whereas a good 911 is still a fair whack! I would like a porker & to keep the S4... maybe get the Mrs a rangerover... along with my own planet & spaceship for daily travel :P

I have been fortunate to run various 911 for the last 12 years.....I still keep one and will always have one in some form.
The S4 is very different, even having bought newer 911, they do not approach the build quality of the S4........I also like the way the S4 gets next to no attention, where as when I take the 911 out it a bit like having your own carnival
]
To get the equivalent 996 with similar mileage to my S4, i would have to spend 2 1/2 times the money.......it will not be as practical or as cheap to run......this is one of the main reasons I keep the S4 as the run a round.

Not knocking the 911 a great experience and it takes a while to get to drive one properly, but very different to the S4.
