MTM Clutch and Lightweight flywheel

Post by viperbl » Wed Nov 08, 2006 5:04 pm

Just fitted an MTM (sachs) Clutch and Single Mass flywheel to my car .

Very nice indeed, there is a little clutch slip, get a little judder while engaging so it can be used every day, but, if you want it to engage, it will!

Have to get used to gear changes now with this clutch as there is no slip at all when using in anger ...

I had the stock RS4 clutch and duel mass flywheel before, and it was great, not much slip or anything and I am running 460 BHP...

but ... I feel the gear changes when gunning it are much sweeter with this setup, I mean, rest assured its going to engage.

Thing is tho, I guess there is a lot more stress now on the gearbox since the duel mass flywheel allowed a little movement? (I think?)

I would say the RS4 setup for normal use. If you like a little challenge and tend to be a more spirited driver/track use then go for something like the MTM setup ...

I am heading along to this event on the 24th of Nov if anyone fancies, I think their are a few spaces left ...

After talked to DavidT it seems my engine might have the over-run fuel cut off enabled, since when I come off the power my instant MPG goes to --- as opposed to 100mpg ... I will do a search, but I am gonna guess this is a tuner thing as opposed to VAG COM???

Good news for me tho, means I might actaully be able to make more use of this lightweight flywheel!!!!

I am going to have a dual mass flywheel along with a custom Helix clutch that MRC have had put together. I hope it offers daily driver comfort with strength to last some harsh conditions... watch this space.

have you tried agressive launches yet? how about any engine noises at low rpms? I bought VAST 8000rpm balanced LWFW but chose to not put it in yet. I still put in my VATS ceramic with stock FW even thoug it gave up once at the drags, but I think it was because of my hydraulic clutch line leaking.

Haven't yet chosen my next clutch setup, but I'm thinking of clutcmasters stg4 6 or 10 puck if the price is right.

Yes, done a few, all good ... no slip or anything, mind you even the stock RS4 FW and clutch did not slip, but I certainly feel more confident with this setup (guess its gonna be driveshaft or gearbox that breaks, not clutch/lwfw!! lol)

I really notice no difference with engine or other noises at low rpms, all is good.
