Combat Turbo Lag!
Combat Turbo Lag!
Guess this is really for Mihnea to answer ...
Is it possible to create a kinda of antilag without an injector pushing fuel into the exhaust?
Check out tfoust's comments http://www.halfbakery.com/idea/Afterbur ... urbo_20lag
Or how about add more fuel when coming off power so that unburnt fuel is dumped into the hot exhaust?
I understand the issues and additonal heat/low turbo life, but for example I have this event coming up and it would certainly be a nice benifit to have an anti lag system without having the expense of putting one in considering I will not be using it much ...

i also think that 1 of our biggest problems with these engines is that they take too long to drop the revs..just rev it in neutral and it dnt come dwn quick enuf..
now when driving really fast and say changing gear at 6200 rpm the revs only drop a little..if they were made to drop to say 3500rpm then the turbo would be ready for a full boost cycle plus we,d ave more revs to wind the gear rite up and get more from it.. slightly off topic but it mite also help with turbo lag..

RE: Combat Turbo Lag!
Aren't you talking gear ratio's there Woody? Making the gearing wider would make the cars slower but would give you more top end.
Try just using 1st, 3rd and 5th...
Back on topic, how about Nitros assisted turbo? dump a bit of nitros in off boost to bring the boost up then turn it off when required boost is reached. Talked about a some length in the old A-series Bible by David Vizard.

Re: RE: Combat Turbo Lag!
Yeah, I read about this and contact noswizard.com. They told me they could do a progressive system that would dump the nos in on WOT and taper off using its control unit as the turbo spooled up, so technically would eradicate all sign of turbo lag ...MarkB wrote:Back on topic, how about Nitros assisted turbo? dump a bit of nitros in off boost to bring the boost up then turn it off when required boost is reached. I think its the real world option for street cars, where changing turbo's often is not an option ....
... but, hmm, NOS. Do you think I will have enough willpower to not just, well, dump a little more in to get that old HP figure up and more power!! That little button sitting their asking me to press it!!

Keep the gas on full throttle between changes so it bounces of the limiter like some c0ck down the golden arches

Tried that!! Clutch/Flywheel where not happy bunnies when I tried to put it in gear!!!! It is possible it was because I was in too low a gear, ie, if I was doing it in anger the difference might only be a 2/3k rpm. I think when I did it, the flywheel was gonna need to drop a lot.david7m wrote:Keep the gas on full throttle between changes so it bounces of the limiter like some c0ck down the golden arches

But then again, I had just had the new clutch/flywheel fitted and did not want to break it!!!
Has anyone else tried this technique successfully with our cars??
Re: RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Combat Turbo Lag!
Well I do now have a lightweight flywheel and paddle clutch, so its all good strong stuff ... might give it a go ...MarkB wrote:I have heard a user on here that uses that method
Hopefully I won't be back later advising not do to it!
RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Combat Turbo Lag!
I was only messin, dont do it ! Thats a sure fire way to ruin your engine and clutch.....something will have to give, if its not the tyres through wheel spin, it must be the clutch through slipping

LOL, and I was gonna blame you if anything went wrong as welldavid7m wrote:I was only messin, dont do it ! Thats a sure fire way to ruin your engine and clutch.....something will have to give, if its not the tyres through wheel spin, it must be the clutch through slipping

But, I have launched my car a few times now with this new clutch, so, you would think it can't be any worse that that, well, on anything other than the clutch/flywheel, I have a feeling that it might be harder on those parts than launching due the wheel not being able to spin ...
RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Combat Turbo Lag!
not gear ratio,s..just sit in your cars when warm..give it a bootfull in neutral and see how long it takes to drop the revs..
i was in a car on sat with an S4 engine and the revs just stopped when he blipped the throttle..our engines hold the revs between gear changes..and to change at almost red line to get the revs to drop only a few hundred revs aint that good no matter how much power/boost we have..i saw it for myself and was amazed how better it was with the revs falling almost at once..

Lightweight flywheel fixes that Simon
Re: RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Combat Turbo Lag!
Have to disagree David, when I got my single mass lightweight flywheel I expected it to help, but you know what, it made little difference!! Maybe a little better, but not a lot to be honest ...DavidT wrote:Lightweight flywheel fixes that Simon

So how good is your fly and clutch compared to the stock feel?
Are u getting better spool up etc.
Is it the best on the market?
