Cheap and cheerful mods?

Post by Alps » Tue Nov 28, 2006 12:33 pm

This is going to sound like a tight ar$e post... but then that's cuz I'm pretty skint :( (and some would also say, a bit of a tight ar$e :) )

Seeing as some of us are meeting at Woody's, I thought I could try my hand at carrying out some cheap, not too techincal mods - and this way I'll hopefully learn my way around the car.. and soon onto to the path of doing some more daring stuff in the future.

I'm thinking about the short-shifter (just a bit worried about how the wife will take the new shift :? ) Are there any other mods I can try out? Hoses, pipes, cosmetic etc?

I've been thinking about washing mine. The wheels nearly match the tyres at the moment.

Quite a simple mod, Dull to Shiney in about an hour. I must do it before the 9th!

Short shift, well I just ordered one from eBay, £40. We'll see!

Just gonna order the Cruise control stalk, £60 ish?

Cheapest mods I can think of are the Darintake mod for the airbox (free), N710 BPV's (£40) and a health check by MRC (approx. £45), however it looks like you may not need the last one!

RS246 sticker - not got any VAG-COM logs, but my a$$ dyno tells me it adds about 0.025 BHP

Seriously though, the cruise control is very handy for those will poor self-control. I ALWAYS use mine when going through sections that have SPECS cameras. Without it, I keep finding the speed creeping up

Ah yes. Darintake, good mod, time and a hacksaw. I did mine but plan to go back there again with a hole saw also...

Have a look at the posting "Dont like Black...try blue" posting - very cheap and cheerful.

1) Had mine washed at the local supermarket... only for the mechanics to smash it and dirty it up a few days later :x

2) Already have cruise... just gotta figure out how to use it  I hear it reduces MPG - good for a tight ar$e ;)

3) N710 BPV's? Let me go do a search on those................

4) RS246 sticker - well I guess every last extra bit of BHP counts, hey :)

5) "Dont like black... try blue" - Tis already blue :D

May just stick to the shifter and Darintake.

Don't be misled. You could substitute any colour for Blue...stripes if you wish!!

 I fancy that black and yellow WARNING tape (see below). Not very stealth though!

Aint the black n yellow stripes the same as the crash test dummies??? If so, aint that tempting fate :( But then again, as its a warning sign, guess it'll warn others against even thinking about racing us!!!
