Road Angel or Origin B2? Anyone had any experiences to make the decision easier.
Road Angel = 199 GBP
Origin B2 = 279 GBP

Hi Dace,

Can't comment on the Road Angel, though have been very pleased with my Origin B2 Solo. This thread might be useful if you decide to go for an Origin:

And if you search ebay, you can get a new one for around £175. that's where I got mine from.

Can't comment on Origin but Road Angel is ace and would not leave home without it now. New road Angel is best, it has a larger display.

My other half has a Road Angel and it's pretty damn good. Easy to update via a USB port on your 'puter. The only slightly annoying thing (though funny) is Tiff's voice telling you about a fixed safety camera ahead....sounds like he is saying "sick safety camera". Sick indeed.

I had a Snooper in my car but recently changed to a TomTom satnav with camera warnings..quite happy with that so far.

Dace,

Please don't make you're decision on price alone. Like I say, you can get a bargain on ebay. I am not connected to this seller and you will need to do your own checking, but as an example, here's one with a buy it now price of £169 plus £6.95 p & p, with 12 month warranty and 6 months subscription:

Thanks Jary,
I like the Origin b2 and think this is the best option, as you do not have to fit it to the windscreen if the laser is near the rear view mirror.

The system then becomes more discreet and looks neater. The deal on ebay is great. Not to sure about the look of the solo though are you?
I understand that it removes the need for the separate laser attachment, however it will need to be "up on" the dash as opposed to near the A pillar.

Thanks
Dave

Dace,

I'm with you on the discreet tip. TBH, I bought the Solo version, which has the aerial attached to the cradle, with every intention of mounting it on top of the dashboard. But when I got it I didn't like the look of it on there. Problem being, because the Solo has the integrated aerial in the cradle, it really needs a clear view upwards to the satellites so it can only really go on top of the dash.

So I ordered the separate aerial on a cable direct from Origin, it was £30, and unclipped the aerial off the cradle and plugged the new one into the same socket. That meant I could mount the unit in front of the central vents as described in the thread I posted the link to previously.

I am actually glad I ordered the Solo version rather than the non-Solo (which comes with the separate aerial as standard), because the Solo is black and the non-Solo is a kind of grey colour, and I felt the black version suited my interior better.

Not sure if I've explained myself very well, could be the San Miguel, but if you do go for the Origin, feel free to PM me if you need any further info. Like I said in my earlier post though, I have no experience of the Road Angel so cannot say whether one is better than the other.

HTH & good luck.

I am of the opinion that the laser detector part of speed camera detectors is a bit of a waste of time. The unit will warn you of a laser only once it has been fired at your car (I've experience of this). Radar speed guns cause a lot of scatter and radar detectors are able to pick up this scatter in advance and warn you; laser doesn't scatter in the same way so you don't get any advance warning. Once the laser has been fired at you it's too late.

Those are my opinions...I'm sure there are many others who'll disagree (especially manufacturers!)

My laser detector has only ever gone off twice, both occasions on the M25 between the M4 and M3 where they have those variable speed limits with cameras on the overhead gantry. Fortunately, I wasn't going fast enough to get nicked.

You can get a radar detector from Origin to plug into the B2. It sits behind the front grille and costs another £150. I haven't got it so cannot comment on whether it's any good. And, of course, you can also get a diffuser, sorry, meant to say remote automated garage opener. Not sure about the legality, usefullness or cost of the latter as, again, I don't have one.
